Mars Matrix: CPS-2 vs Dreamcast

Post by ResOGlas »

I've heard a lot of people saying the Dreamcast version is better and Vice Versa. I only own the CPS-2 version, but hey, it's arcade perfect. ;)

What are the pros and cons for each version?

Dreamcast version has stereo sound, hires (31.5khz) support, and rapid shotgun fire.

The DC version also has a remix mode with completely different enemy patterns (same bosses), a ton of unlockables, and a better soundtrack IIRC. It also has some issues with rippling which can be mostly corrected by tweaking the screen settings.

CPS-2 has stereo sound...

Interesting about the Rapid Piercing Cannon though.

Uh, this is totally one-sided.

fixed scoring (no longer possible to max the score)
extra mode
no one button crap
remixed soundtrack

BUT THE "SHIMMERING"

I hate the controls for the CPS2 version.

The one-button control scheme actually works better once you get used to it, IMO.

There is no way in hell the Dreamcast version looks better.
It looks the same if you put the resolution on the same as the arcade in which case you will have huge borders top, bottom and sides.

On of my main gripes with this game is the resolution differences.

You can get rid of most of the visible ripple without turning your screen into a postage stamp.

The extra modes really rule.
I never noticed lots of the cool backgrounds until I played those.
