MAME on PSP now allegedly supports TATE...

Post by Thunder Force »

Saw this posted on a PSP fan board, thought I'd pass it on
OMG!!

Just been messing around with the namco mame....Once your at the rom selector press the L button and you go to the config menu. Put your clock speed to 333 and then goto screen mode and select rotate and stretch. Then select Galaxian. Game loads up vertically and full speed! Then press l button and bring up the in game config and select the analogu stick up for fire, you now have perfect galaxian on your psp !!!
The official site for this release is somewhat confusing (multiple binaries released, incomplete working games lists) and it's early days but looking promising

(of course, both Galaxian and Galaga in TATE have already been perfectly released by Namco for PSP so the above news is more of a proof of concept for future portable shmup possibilities via MAME on PSP w/1.0 or 1.50 firmware)

Sorry, but who cares?

Handheld TATE is nice, but PSP hasn't got the controls to make it play in any pleasant way.

I repeat once again: both Sony and Nintendo could have taken notice of the Wonderswan's controls design.

A missed oportunity for sure.

The official Namco Galaga port in TATE is quite playable, perhaps not as pleasant as could be, but certainly hella fun for something that fits in your pocket...

Using the classic "Atari Lynx style TATE" control of:

D-pad UP = Left
D-pad DOWN = Right
Face X/O buttons = Shoot

See, they should use the analog stick to move, and the d-pad for buttons

its the same with star soldier, in the end your finger hurts and you want to throw the psp against the wall. thats not how it could be.., the analog stick of the psp is just crap for playing longer than 10 minutes, because its position makes your finger hurt. on vert mode i just wish the stick would be at the other side, above the digital stick but even then it wouldn't be much better. its a sad thing that for precice fast games the psp controls just dont make it.
