I can't remember if this has been mentioned before, but I've been using this wiki that's pretty decent:

Probably the place to go for up-to-date info. Thought I'd post it just in case some here haven't run across it yet.

Re: Dark Souls- "Spiritual Successor to Demon's Souls"
Going to post my comments concerning the patch since I'm sick and have no work and can't play games without getting motion sickness. Let's go.
- Item lists in shops have been adjusted. (Bottomless Box added to Male Undead Merchant. Bunch of arrows added to Female Undead Merchant, Andrei, Domnhall, Giant Blacksmith, and Vamos. Domnhall will sell the Master Key after he moves to the Firelink Shrine. Giant and Vamos both sell the various equipment boxes. Giant sells a bunch of shards now. Vamos sells Titanite Shards. Ingward sells Transient Curse.)
This guy's translation is lazy. Giant sells Large, Green, and Twinkling shards which is pretty big news.
- The amount of Faith required to join the Sunlight Covenant is now 25 instead of 50. The formula for reducing it with multiplayer remains the same.
Thank god. Sunbro covenant isn't even all that good. Good for early to mid-game coop, I guess, and Great Lightning, but if you've no intention of using elemental attacks I wouldn't bother. You could probably get the same amount off co-op out of the Miracle covenant. Apparently they're cross compatible anyway.
- Lock-on behavior has been adjusted.
Really curious as to exactly how this has changed. I noticed I had difficulty switching lock-on targets from one to another, something I had no issues with in Demon's.
- Fixed the exploit with infinite weapon/magic usage.
Bye duping. Oh, but you could just unpatch and dupe, so... well, since the save will be tagged as 1.04, I guess it means making a new character offline, getting allllllll the way up to the Dragon covenant, duping, and going online. I don't think that's worthwhile at all. Might as well just play the game normally.
- Fixed various English translation errors in the overseas version of the game.
It actually says it fixed the producer's name.

Re: Dark Souls- "Spiritual Successor to Demon's Souls"
I've come to the decision I should probably finish my playthrough under ver 1.03. There is a whole host of armor/weapons/spells that are all drastically affected by this new patch. Given how close I am to the ending, I guess I'll tough it out offline and start a new playthrough with the new patch after I've put some time into skyrim.
Sort of bad timing/too many changes for me. I'm sure the changes are mostly a good thing, but not when you're so close to the end.

Re: Dark Souls- "Spiritual Successor to Demon's Souls"
Twinkling!!! I don't care how much they cost, just getting a few more twinkling can make a huge difference in tuning your gear. Even if the revisions mean you need to change up your outfit.Elixir wrote: This guy's translation is lazy. Giant sells Large, Green, and Twinkling shards which is pretty big news.
I'd reeaaally love to know the details on these, though I guess that doesn't fit well with the general secrecy of the game.Adjustments to the amount of suols dropped by enemies.
- Adjustments to the item drops from enemies.
- Increased Drop rates for certain Covenant items and Equipment Enhancement materials which had extremely low drop rates.
- Adjusted the Item Discovery increase rate which scales with Humanity levels.
I guess it means more twinkling from the clams, since they are being sold anyway (and I guess more shards from regular enemies, since those are pointlessly rare as it is now). I'm mostly interested in knowing if it means we can find more slabs, though.
Also, if the item discovery rate would increase more linearly with humanity, as opposed to the current logarithmic function, humanity would suddenly be hell a lot more useful (and interesting to obtain in general). At least this one is a visible stat in the game.
Re: Dark Souls- "Spiritual Successor to Demon's Souls"
Twinklings are 8k each, infinite stock.
JP patch is out. English patch will come out as soon as you've gone to bed.

Aw, I was hoping to go buy some twinkling's as soon as I get home from work.

Twinkling, twinkling...
Any words about that Snuggly trade glitch (if this is one) where you can easily trade more than one object of the same type ?

Sweet. Lots of good changes. Getting twinkling titanite will be easy too, just do some pvp to stock up on souls.
Now when does it come out on 360 :d
edit: oh hell yeah, brass armor and silver knight armor buffed :3

Re: Dark Souls- "Spiritual Successor to Demon's Souls"
Another important change:
They lowered the effect of humanity on physical defense and removed it's effect on other defences.
Before it added like 40 to everything at some amount, this will make things less annoying.
Bah, painting guardian waistcloth got nerfed really bad too :x I suppose medium weight leg armor will be the best now, but you'd need a lot more equip weight.

Is it me or does the game get really boring after Sens?
I'm not sure if I want to finish it with this character or just make a new one...maybe i'm just OP.

Re: Dark Souls- "Spiritual Successor to Demon's Souls"
Ugh, just release the patch already.
I don't even want 1.03 knowing what .04 does. Oh sure armour gets nerfed up the fucking wazoo but it's for the better, really. Higher stat requiring equipment was mostly left alone.

Re: Dark Souls- "Spiritual Successor to Demon's Souls"
So I'm watching Brett take out scrubs in Burg that keep invading. I guess the upper level limit is still in place.
Man, that's fucking funny. I can't wait until I get to NG+. Undead Burg is probably my most disliked area in the game, but it will be worth it if I can troll the hell out of people trying to invade under level 20.

Re: Dark Souls- "Spiritual Successor to Demon's Souls"
Beat four kings, firesage demon and the centipede demon today. Want to finish this game before the patch comes out. Definitely won't bother with pyromancy on my next character.

Re: Dark Souls- "Spiritual Successor to Demon's Souls"
Funny, Undead Burg was probably my favorite area. I really dig the incredible level design here, much like Boletaria Palace in Demon's.
Re: Dark Souls- "Spiritual Successor to Demon's Souls"
I haaaaaaaaaaate that shit, I had to summon someone. Still no idea how I'm going to get through Izalith. I'm fixated with my Havel and Dark Wood rings.CMoon wrote:Beat four kings

Just use light armor, nothing there can hit you fast enough for it to matter.Elixir wrote:Still no idea how I'm going to get through Izalith. I'm fixated with my Havel and Dark Wood rings.
Do you mean Undead Parish? I found that a bit better, Undead Burg was short though (before taurus demon) and the lower section was sort of sloppy (before capra)Sumez wrote:Funny, Undead Burg was probably my favorite area. Re: Dark Souls- "Spiritual Successor to Demon's Souls"
Four kings is relatively easy if you have really high poise, and fuckload of estus flasks, and a lot of vitality and a very damaging weapon to keep them from ganging up on you.Elixir wrote: I haaaaaaaaaaate that shit, I had to summon someone. But yeah, you might as well get a helper, because it's a really boring fight anyway.
Also, centipede demon without summoning help - is this even possible?
Well, Parish and Burg combined really, they have similar level design and are parts of the same area (Parish is a lot smaller than Burg, thoughZaarock wrote: Do you mean Undead Parish? Re: Dark Souls- "Spiritual Successor to Demon's Souls"
I'm pretty disappointed about the nerfing of Iron Flesh. I just think about fighting those two golden bosses, Four Kings, and the last boss without them. Especially the two golden guys. Ugh.
I like a lot of the other stuff(I think so anyway). I really hope they sit down and make a patch to help out the frame rate. At least in Blight Town.
Nerfing pyromancy.....well, that's gonna change the way I play my next game. Might have to put some work into sorcery.
You know reading about the game's sales....I think other Japanese developers should take note. They seem to have a hard time finding a way to appeal to more U.S. gamers. I think a lot of that has to do with the difference between visuals nowadays. Their effeminate anime look, isn't really going over too well with us, lately.
The Midieval setting has always been popular with Western audiences(Lord Of The Rings!), so maybe other companies can try to work with that a bit. I know Capcom is going to. In the 80's, they tackled a lot of Sci-fi stuff, that went over really well, with U.S. gamers. Maybe they can start to figure out how to appeal to us more(well...by us, I mean the masses).
And we like ninjas too. Take note, Nippon.
