Re: current favorite albums
I just heard Amputechture by The Mars Volta for the first time. My mind is fucking blown away. It's instantly one of my favorite albums ever. Someone in the comments section of one of their videos on YouTube said, "I really think that Omar and Cedric are the Beethoven and Mozart of this generation." I totally agree.

Kariera (a.k.a. Zespół Kariera) - "Miasto". Check them out, especially if you are into dEUS or Tindersticks (also - Van der Graaf Generator - I just found a missing link!).
Also, Operation Mindcrime, Leprosy and Individual Thought Patterns. In other words: I got a job AGAIN.

I can't get enough of Lady Saw's porny-but-righteous dancehall at the moment. Try 'Raw' if you reckon you can handle her!
Also this monster raggacore set by The DSC (AKA The Dog Shit Crew) is taking up a lot of my ear's time at the moment. Its The DSC (Stivs and Ed Cox) playing out a load of their tunes from over the years). Download or stream it here all legally and everything.

Space Bong - The Passion of the Crust - Crustier/grindier than the full length but awesome nevertheless.
Gigan - Quasi Hallucinogenic Sonic Landscapes -- The best death metal I've heard in a long time

^^ some good shit right there my friend. great album.mesh control wrote:Brian Eno - Another Green World
Mars Volta was mentioned. I tried hard to get into Mars Volta (and Sparta) after ATDI split-up.
De-Loused is a phenomenal album but I'm still drawn to the raw, punk (early years) and juvenile
sound of ADTI. Cedric and Omar are no doubt amazing musicians.
recently on playlist - Lou Reed - Street Hassle

Disma's "Toward The Megalith" is superb. Quite redolent of early Incantation a lot of the time, and in fact Craig Pillard is on vocals. Highly recommended!

Liked other things on your list, so I had to check this out. Very good.mesh control wrote:Swans - Soundtrack For The Blind (It's been a while.)
I listen to Mogwai way out of proportion to how much I like them. I do love c.o.d.y., though.

I totally get where you're coming from. As much as I adore TMV, there is something very nostalgic and cathartic about ATDI. Sparta had a couple good songs. I really liked Cut Your Ribbon.De-Loused is a phenomenal album but I'm still drawn to the raw, punk (early years) and juvenile
sound of ADTI.

Re: current favorite albums
Smile Sessions - excellent, but why the hell is the actual album in MONO ... teeter-totter love.
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless - after watching the doc about creation records. Bobby Gillespie summed it up pretty well, that almost everything since has been looking back - Loveless was the last look forward.
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here (experience edition) - Fantastic live concert from 1974 on disc 2 plus a more spacey version of Have a Cigar.

Yellowcard - When you're through thinking, say yes. not as good as "ocean avenue" but still a decent listen.
It's about "realizing their actuality." And judging by the look on Jane's face, she's realized it a couple of times already.

Lots of Pearl Jam thanks to watching the PJ20 docu over the weekend. Think that Vitalogy is still my favourite of the lot, with Backspacer and No Code just behind. Best straight-ahead rock band in the world.
