I suppose kids will now take way more nutrients than they should because they're attracted to anime girls. This kind of marketing is the stuff of devils, really. It's beyond sickening.

I remember when I used to think Japan was pretty cool. Wish I could relive the 80's and early 90's again. good times.

I recently made friends with an otaku guy from Tokyo. He was visiting Phoenix for a couple of weeks, and I was asked to be his English tutor. So, we got toegether and I found out he's a pretty awesome otaku-type guy. Not all of them are morons. He gave up on Star Wars once he saw Jar Jar, and he's sick of the whole moe crap in manga/anime and recognizes that stereotypes like tsundere are just convenient character types to use as plot vehicles.

So, our voices of opposition are not the only ones. I think there are plenty of Japanese otaku who are sick of the direction the industry is going.

So what kind of supplement does each girl represent? The 4 girls with the helmets are obviously the B vitamins, but I have no clue what the girl in the swimsuit and track jacket is supposed to be.

Well, to be more precise, he does get beaten a lot, but always seems to be able to bounce back so long as a humorous sound effect is played at the moment of impact.

I still haven't seen much of a coherent reason behind all the uproar. It's sure as hell better than the fucking mecha and magical girl fads of 90's.

You take that back.

OT:
Seriously, what else could you expect? Moe is now the "in" thing, so this is some company hopping on the bandwagon. You literally can't expect a company to be above this... :P

Well most of the anime/ mangas are just plain shit so what do you expect?

Heavy clicheed characters who behave like 7 year old children go through stories an imbecile could write in 10 minutes and provide FANSARRWISSU. Thats about 85 percent of animes. I have watched over 400 anime series. And most of them were shit. I still like to watch them and i will in future but honestly i just have to admit that most of these were just stupid entertainment. Every book i read (even the bad ones) was a hundred times more valuable than watching this crap. Sure, every now and then you find a precious gem like Serial Experiements Lain or Texhnolyze but that's rare.

I agree completely... it's even worse when you are concious about it and you keep saying to yourself "stop watching this crap and go read/watch something better"

excuse moi? magical girl and mecha fads actually had SOMETHING FUCKING HAPPENING. seriously, most of the time that moe is involved, there is nothing of any significance going on. honestly, i'd take sailor moon over LUCKY FUCKING STAR. because i can actually take hearing "MOON PRISM POWER, MAKEUP!" a lot more than any moe bullshit i've seen.
It's about "realizing their actuality." And judging by the look on Jane's face, she's realized it a couple of times already.

I just don't get how moe is culturally viable. Is pedophilia not such a hot-button issue in Japan? I guess they probably don't have an equivalent of the Bible Belt, but still... I'm similarly confused about the odd comfort with which Nazi Germany is addressed in Japanese games/anime/etc, although that's a topic for another thread.
