Here is what Hardcore Gamer 101 had to say about R Shark and the Mechanics.

R-Shark wasn't Dooyong's last game, but as all that was following were insignificant puzzlers, it nonetheless stands as Dooyongs big swansong. Neverending sprite fireworks, exciting stage design, balanced weapons, intimidating bosses and a soundtrack able to move shmup veterans to tears— every aspect of R-Shark is nothing short of breathtaking, and the game can be put in a line with genre highlights like Dodonpachi with no regrets.

At the beginning the player in the role of a headhunter gets to chose to go after one of 8 interstellar criminals, afterwards the following order is decided by the game. In addition stands an individual super attack for each weapon, that attaches a huge-ass mega gun to the ship when used and replaces the genre standard smart bombs. While not a bullet hell shooter proper, it borders on that territory quite often, especially with the boss fights. The game remains fair at any time, though, and upgrades are in very generous distribution.

For the Sonic game: The PCB is not working at the moment (it starts fine, demo mode is working but as soon as you deposit a coin & press start the game crashes :cry:
I assume it's the damn suicide battery and I need to get decrypted roms for this game. Is anybody on here who has these roms & can burn them for me please ???

I was introduced to Dooyong's final arcade shmup title by the name of R-Shark at the Modesto, CA based Nickel Play arcade back in 1997-1998. Despite never have heard of this Dooyong arcade developer/publisher before, it was cool to see/play another arcade shmup title being given proper recognition. It was priced to play at a mere 20 cents per credit. The name of R-Shark reminded me of another arcade PCB title of "Fire Shark" and thought could this be related to that older arcade shmup title? Despite the similarities in both name titles, they are quite different indeed. After watching the demo of it run through it's paces, it was time to give it a spin and see how it fares. Naturally, I'd creditfeed it to try out ever single stage and played through three loops in one session before deciding to quit & to call it a day. Considering that it was an oddball arcade shmup title that none of my other local arcades got in, I was surprised that the Nickel Play arcade owner got this peculiar shmup PCB in. Eventually, when the opportunity arised to get an R-Shark PCB for my own arcade PCB stash came along, I jumped at it. Quite an interesting South Korean produced shmup PCB.

So yes, R-Shark did make a cameo appearance in the USA after all at a lone indy arcade and I was very fortunate to have tried it out properly on a Dynamo cab setup.

Yeah I mean I was kind of digging the small size of the MV1C, but the MV1F has built-in controller ports, stereo connector and socketed BIOS, so I think in the end I got the better end of the bargain.

Just gave this a try on MAME. Looks pretty cool, but it has one of my top pet peeves I have. Wobbly bullets. Quite a few old shmups do not have the bullets locked to the top most background layer and it looks weird as hell. It looks like the bullets change direction and are hunting after you when you move sideways. Ugh.

EDIT: Haha, just realised that the powerups and I think the enemies do not seem to behave like the bullets. Oh how hard it must be to just commit all the sprites to the same fucking layer or at least lock those layers to move the same way.

Yeah, you end up shifting the bullet trajectories as you move your ship, which can be a little difficult to get to grips with.

In the case of R-Shark, its not the bullets that are moving, its the background layer (and items mapped to that layer) that are moving incorrectly relative to the player ship movements. Bullet trajectories are always the same relative to the ship no matter how you move. Call it lazy programming, or an intended "gimmick" used to make the game more difficult.

Also I don't see this in Diaoh. We all played it in STGT and I don't remember anyone mentioning it either.

Umm, on the back of the PCB it's marked as "NEO-MVH MV1C" (check the pic). Put it down to SNK's bullshit model numbering.

Yes the pic is the MV1C, but what he shipped me is most definitely not an MV1C.

Compare the pic I posted to the one in the eBay listing, it's pretty obvious. The MV1C is about 1/2 the size of the MV1F.

I'm just remembering wrongly then, for some reason I recalled some odd bullet behaviour.

So it's the background layer that's not locked properly? It really feels like the bullets are locked onto the top layer with your ship, weird optical illusion.

Ahh, my mistake, I didn't look at the dimensions of that thing at all. There's some odd model numbering with MVS boards, so I thought this was another case of that.

Heheh that's ok ... it's quite funny actually, when you compare the two. There is no way you could mix the two up.

They vastly different.

But, I'm totally ok with it actually. The 1F has a lot of extras on it the 1C doesn't, so it's all good. If I was trying to build a CMVS or cram one into an existing small case, I'd be super pissed, cuz the 1F is like 3-4 times the size of the 1C. But this way I've got stereo support, headphone support, on-board DB-15 ports for controls, and a socketed BIOS so I can switch to UniBIOS later. Aces!!

Yep, it's all the extra bits you get: speaker and headphone outs with manual vol control and of course 2 AES stick ports which can be handy if you come across a 4 player game or are using a Supergun and want to plug in Neo Sticks.

Exactly.

The socketed BIOS is a big deal too. I was kind of bummed when I found the MV1C didn't have that, since it makes installing a UniBIOS way more difficult. Though I did just recently see a pre-built socket adapter with a 2 wire install that eliminates that problem, but obviously it's still more work than just pulling the old BIOS chip and popping in a new one.
