Akira the movie green lighted

Post by TrevHead (TVR) »

I was hoping this had died a death but it looks like really happening http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/vi ... tion-Akira

Has anyone seen any other work by the director Jaume Collet-Serra? Is he any good?

I dont have much hope for this but maybe it wont be as bad as that YT parody trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jafd97yJFOI

I feel sorry for both Americans and the Japanese, The shame Americans must feel for this makes the Iraq war and Hiroshimo (almost) seem trivial

Was the anime based in Japan? And therefore wouldn't it be rightful to put Japanese in it?

Or will it be Americanized in Neo New York?
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

 Someone nuke Hollywood.

In all seriousness, did anyone expect it to be anything other than a train wreck? It's not even like the sentiment in the general media is anything except pure apprehension.

It's just one of those things that should never, ever be done - at least not in the state the industry is currently in. But hell, no-one's listening to anything except how many zeroes are on their paycheck.

i'm well beyond the point in my life where i'm subscribing to an eschatological 'out', but, when it comes to the release of this movie, i'm pretty optimistic the world will come to an end before it ever gets released

Really hoping it bombs if it ever gets released. Despite Akira being well known in Japan and animu fan circles, it has almost no mainstream recodnition. If the general public doesn't bother to see it, and animu fans are already planning not to see it, who the hell is going to watch it?

Some script details here, although I understand it's being re-written as big names weren't enthused by the original script:

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/ ... s/?a=30988

Neo-Tokyo is Neo-Manhattan. I feel if they don't do an American-Asian industry fusion Blade Runner style they'll have missed a trick, big time. Tetsuo and Kaneda are now brothers and have a fight in a Bowling alley instead of around the SOL satellite. Kei is called Ky, Takeshi is called... Tobias, lol.

Oh, and Akira is Jesus.

I'm kind of expecting it to be as much of a cringe-fest as Final Fantasy: Spirits Within, if that's even possible.

So let me get this straight

If its good (im laughing as I type this) it'll be something similar to Bladerunner.

If its bad it will be a full on patriotic movie complete with statue of liberty destroyed, and lots of flags burning in slow mo plus violins

Man I really wish those types of movies died off after WWII

I think if that was to happen the universe would implode.

More likely itll be the same feeling as meeting a old childhood sweet heart only that she is now a he and called Gary

Meh, it was okay. I wouldn't bother with it again. It was a million times better than SW, but that ain't saying much.
