The spear's moveset is great for Anor Londo, really, since your regular attack doesn't take down your shield, and you NEED your shield for Anor Londo.CMoon wrote:In Anor Londo and getting my ass handed to me by the first couple dudes. Maybe I'm underleveled (40) or just suck too much. Would it be worth going back and messing with the New Londo Ruins or the Catacombs, or should I tough it out in Anor Londo?
Edit: looks like part of the problem is the spear's lackluster moveset.
Don't bother with New Londo or Catacombs just yet.

You only need to fight 1, the others are "optional" (there's a good ember there, though)evil_ash_xero wrote:No, I just meant the Demon Ruins, in general. It might be a little much, that early on. Fighting 7 Taurus Demons, requires some EXP.

Apparently From Software's fattest female model only goes up to British.
Hey, why is it that I may be somewhere in the game, and this sound (as if I'm going through fog) occurs, and this yellow stuff comes into my character? Sorry I can't be more descriptive, I really have no idea what it is. It's like something died somewhere else.

Maybe some creature fell off a cliff somewhere?
Or someone invaded your game
I believe there's a covenant that allows you to do it silently.
Or someone invaded your game

Re: Dark Souls- "Spiritual Successor to Demon's Souls"
You can just fight them one by one so the number doesn't matter. And theyre optional anyway. Demon Ruins should be pretty doable at 54.evil_ash_xero wrote:Fighting 7 Taurus Demons, requires some EXP.
Elixir: someone you're connected to kindled the bonfire you last visited making you gain an estus flask. That or you gained random humanity, I don't remember what kind of visual effect that has or if it even has one.
edit:
Waiting around in twilight anor londo for blades of the darkmoon to invade. can also summon a single white phantom (can 2v2). But I get around 30k souls per kill which should be pretty normal for pvp anyway.Sumez wrote:Shit o_O What kind of PvP are you doing (what covenant, I guess)?

Re: Dark Souls- "Spiritual Successor to Demon's Souls"
Oh, I gained an 11th Estus Flask. Yeah, that's it.
Re: Dark Souls- "Spiritual Successor to Demon's Souls"
So that's how you gain those extra Estus flasks?
Now I wish someone would figure out where the random humanity comes from.

The person he killed was probably a soul duper. Killing one of those can net you that much.Sumez wrote:Shit o_O What kind of PvP are you doing (what covenant, I guess)?Zaarock wrote: On another note, I just got 930k souls from some pvp.. what the hell do I do with that if I don't want to level up lol

Hmm, that's the one drawback of "forced" online I guess. People abusing glitches ending up having an influence on yourself.
Re: Dark Souls- "Spiritual Successor to Demon's Souls"
no no, I didn't mean I killed a single guy for that. probably 20-30. You get enough souls from normal people for soul glitch not to matter really, I'm just using those souls to stock up on every pvp item and atm leveling everything I have to +5
Re: Dark Souls- "Spiritual Successor to Demon's Souls"
Again- what kind of PvP are you doing? Darkwraith? Darkmoon?
Re: Dark Souls- "Spiritual Successor to Demon's Souls"
I'm waiting for invaders (darkwraiths and darkmoons) in twilight anor londo, often along with a white phantom. It can be 2v2 as well.

Re: Dark Souls- "Spiritual Successor to Demon's Souls"
I just hit endgame, so I guess it's time to go twilight in my Anor Londo now...
Re: Dark Souls- "Spiritual Successor to Demon's Souls"
Some warnings though:
- It becomes pretty dark, especially outside the cathedral
- Lock-on distance is smaller
- People with mist ring become very hard to see
- You won't be able to use the anor londo bonfire but if you die, you will respawn there instead of the chamber (glitch?)
- The secret boss becomes the area boss so you can summon white phantoms until you've killed it (it's optional)

Re: Dark Souls- "Spiritual Successor to Demon's Souls"
This is a dumb question, but how close is 'painted world' to the end? I'd like to finish my first run by or before 11/11 (you know, skyrim day). If it has taken me three weeks to get this far, do I even stand a chance?
Edit: Seriously, why do so many monsters have unblockable insta-death moves? Grrr.

Yeah, only heard of this from the Wiki, otherwise I wouldn't ever bother attacking her (though I consider killing all the NPCs for their drops before completing the game, but I hate feeling like an asshole in gamesZaarock wrote:Some warnings though:

First question: Well, assuming you're in Anor Londo, but haven't beaten the boss there yet? (painted world is an optional area)CMoon wrote:This is a dumb question, but how close is 'painted world' to the end? I'd like to finish my first run by or before 11/11 (you know, skyrim day). In that case, you're still quite some way from the end, but I guess over half way. You'll spend more time revisiting old areas the closer to the end you get, if you're a completist and want to upgrade all your stuff.
Second question: To keep you from feeling safe just because you have your shield up, I guess?

Re: Dark Souls- "Spiritual Successor to Demon's Souls"
You can just go straight to it if you have the covenant ring.Sumez wrote:I didn't realise you could fight that "secret" boss before going twilight in Anor Londo - how do you get there then?
Like what? On NG if you have a high stability shield you can block pretty much everything I think.CMoon wrote:Seriously, why do so many monsters have unblockable insta-death moves? Grrr.
Re: Dark Souls- "Spiritual Successor to Demon's Souls"
The standard dudes in blighttown, the goddamn trees, the crow demons, prowling demon, obviously many bosses. I don't think any of these moves are blockable.Zaarock wrote:Like what? Re: Dark Souls- "Spiritual Successor to Demon's Souls"
Mimics, Tree ents, those cthulhu snakes and the humanoid creatures in the first part of blight town all have attacks that will either kill you in one hit, or damage you immensely, regardless of your shield. I don't think the "dark hand" magic of the Darkwraiths in New Londo can be blocked with a shield either?Zaarock wrote: Like what? Those instakill grabs are nasty but do have big tells usually. Not the damn Mimicrys though.
Just got past those god damn mother fucking archers in Anor Londo. They made me rage really hard, mainly because when the archer on the left pulls his sword out he pins you to the wall and the lock on camera becomes an absolute hinderance. Do those fools respawn? Hope not.
For reference Cmoon I am sl 50 and a little way into Anor Londo so looks like I am a fair bit higher than you with a number of points in Endurance. Maybe it would be worth putting a few levels on? After all the horror stories I think I will be leveling in this area in preperation for the bosses.

Haha, I just noticed that using the charcoal resin buff adds some light from your weapon to the environment in twilight londo. Pretty bad buff but the item is very cheap, it looks cool and you'll light up your environment looking for pesky fog ringers
and the enemies will burn when hit making them easier to see as well.

I guess you didn't know you can just hit the chest before opening to reveal it's a mimic? makes them pretty trivial if you have a fairly strong weapon. Mimic grab move does have a pretty big tell.sjewkestheloon wrote:Those instakill grabs are nasty but do have big tells usually. Not the damn Mimicrys though.
Re: Dark Souls- "Spiritual Successor to Demon's Souls"
I'm also grinding up my levels--kinda hard not to at this point since most things drop around 500 souls. Also been leveling up my pyro fist (again). +1 ascended great fireball does something like 600 points of damage. Of course, you only get 4, but how many do you need? Great Combustion is my bread and butter. Wish I had a weapon that could dish out that kinda damage.
Got everything I wanted out of painted world and am back to anor londo. Almost every enemy now is as tough as the gargoyle boss. Going slow...

They respawn, but the bonfire is right behind them, so it doesn't matter.sjewkestheloon wrote: Just got past those god damn mother fucking archers in Anor Londo. Actually what you want is for him to pull out his sword and follow you. He'll fall off the side immediately, don't even bother locking on to him.
Huh no?Zaarock wrote: I guess you didn't know you can just hit the chest before opening to reveal it's a mimic? makes them pretty trivial if you have a fairly strong weapon. Mimic grab move does have a pretty big tell.
The mimics have tons of health, especially later in the game (like Duke's archives). How did you get a weapon strong enough to take those out in just a few hits?
And their grab move has a really short warning, and an extremely far reach, making it very difficult to avoid, IMO. I just try to avoid ever standing in front of them, which makes the fight even longer.

Re: Dark Souls- "Spiritual Successor to Demon's Souls"
I started doing two-handed forward+R2 attacks to every treasure chest I came across. If it was a mimic, it would do like 30-40% damage, and then you could get another hit or two on him while he's getting up. By that point, all you need to do is block or dodge one of his attacks, and he'll be wide open for the finishing blow. Worked for me all the way through NG+.
Anyway, got my 1000/1000 on this. Great game, and hopefully 1.04 will iron out most of its problems. I just wish this game had dedicated servers like Demon's Souls, but oh well. Maybe next time.

Re: Dark Souls- "Spiritual Successor to Demon's Souls"
Is the forest entirely just.. that area, some giants, Butterfly, a knight, ice golems, the Hydra and the guy at the bottom of the spiral tower to the Taurus? Did I miss a huge area or something?
Anyway, got my Zweihander to +5. How do I go about turning it into Lightning? Can't upgrade beyond +5, not sure why.

Re: Dark Souls- "Spiritual Successor to Demon's Souls"
You need the smiths to go lightning or +6. Use the "modify" menu option. With a certain ember, Andre can ascend your weapon from +5 to +6 - beyond that, you can upgrade on your own up to +10.
Anyway, the forest is also the area with the NPC enemies (four of which respawn, the rest are near-invisible), the area with the mushrooms and "cat bears", and of course the boss fight with Sif beyond that.
Should be pretty obvious how to get there, whether you want to take the ladder next to the Hydra miniboss fight, or the locked door in the early section (key sold by a certain obvious NPC).
Also, after the Hydra, go all the way into the back of its lake (watch out for deep waters) and defeat the crystal golem there. If it doesn't appear, try quitting/loading the game.

Re: Dark Souls- "Spiritual Successor to Demon's Souls"
Stuck in ash lake grinding twinkling titanite from those damn clams. I'm using a gravelord Sword +4 so 3 2 handed R2 stabs kills them (it hurts if you fuck up though). I want to fully upgrade my Black Iron armour but i've only got enough to do one piece of the set at the moment, that means another 30 or so before I can leave and this stuff is rare! Getting plenty of purging stones which I don't think i'll really need anymore but the titanite drops maybe one an hour even with the covetous gold serpent ring and 15 humanity (drop rate of 380)
After helping someone kill Ornstein and Smough I dont think I could take them without some serious upgrading.
Still need to visit new londo and clean up a few things near the starting area.
By the way, I know it's supposed to be crap but how to I get the Iron golem axe? I have his soul and have met the giant blacksmith ( i gave him some kind of ember too) is there something special i need to happen?

The universe is neither hostile nor friendly, simply indifferent.
Even without my umbillical cable attached I still have over 12,000 plates of fortified armour AND I have my AT Field! There's NO WAY I can lose!!

I didn't have any issues with Sen's Fortress. Probably died less than 5 times.
