Come on what they all have great albums. I have yet to find a song I disliked by any of those bands.

Weezer was fine until Green. I accepted Green. Maladroit was a step back in the right direction. Make Believe is pure, unadulterated, shit.

SOAD, however, has consistently rocked since the mid-90's.

Then again...no really good, long-running bands have been featured heavily on MTV. It's just not their audience. Bad Religion, Social Distortion, etc. etc.....

There's a possibility of The Smashing Pumpkins getting back together.

Nine Inch Nails is rock? I've never heard them, but I've never heard of a rock band working with Aphex Twin.

Yes NIN is Rock. The Latest album was Recorded Live mostly and is very Rock Guitar and Percussion Based. Most of their prior albums were Electronic/Industrial/Metal type. In fact they won a Best Metal Grammy in 93 for the Song Wish

NIN has one good album. The Downward Spiral has some great production and is, unlike everything else he's done, very consistent. Fragile was 3/4ths of a good disc spread over two, Pretty Hate Machine might as well be called "Head Like a Hole, Terrible Lie and Sin" because nothing else is worth a damn, Broken is good but is only an EP, and With Teeth is just horrible.

And they all, without exception, have terrible lyrics. The man has never matured past 14. Considering his age now, it's rather embarassing to listen to.

With that said, if you like Trent's more electronic, harsh stuff (not the guitar driven songs), pick up Too Dark Park by Skinny Puppy.

I really, really wish RHCP was still putting out albums like Mother's Milk. I can't stand their new stuff. Then again, I have the worst taste in music, ever.

I'm big on Queens of the Stone Age, though I wish the radio stations would have played their entire repertoire a few dozen times instead of playing 'No One Knows' 1000000000 times...

Holy shit.

Ayreon, Nightwish, Lacuna Coil, Tool, Poison the Well, From Autumn to Ashes, Atreyu is what I'm currently listening. Garbage is great, if only for "Cherry Lips."

Weezer I also like, but I hate "Beverly Hills"(aside from the fact that I'll listen to it) and my favorite song is Pink Triangle.

SOAD, Metallica, Aphex Twin, Sum 41, Good Charlotte, etc. should hopefully die out soon so they can get off of air asap. Maybe they'd bring back mtv to New Zealand if this happened.

There's a new Tool album coming out sometime in 2006, btw.

Radiohead are awesome, and in the studio now, making a new album :D

Red Hot Chili Peppers have, in my opinion, consistently sucked balls since the mid 90s. I cant stand to listen to any of their overplayed stuff any more.

I do hope that the Pumpkins do get back together, that would be so freakin sweet.

Therion
Dream Theater
Ayreon
Kamelot
Mostly Autumn
KMFDM
A Pagan's Mind
Pelican
Hammerfall

There has been a ton of good rock to come out this year and last. As they say, rock and metal didn't die, it just migrated to Europe.

A lot of things listed so far, aren't rock.

Anyway, for my money, two of the best actual rock bands currently still playing, are Queens Of The Stone Age and Muse. Electric Six are highly amusing too. The Bravery look to be ones to watch out for, and I'd like the Pumpkins to reform, if they play stuff like their first album - which kicked all the rest into orbit as a contigious work.

Oh, and RHCP have to be if anything MORE overrated than even Trent Reznor.

From the looks of it, we're not really counting metal and all of it's sub-divisions, right? Just "classic", stuff-on-the-radio American rock?

How do you manage to lump in Aphex Twin with Sum 41 and Good Charlotte? What does Aphex Twin have to do with anything?

Well, I suppose that people's opinions differ on what defines "real Rock".

In my ever humble opinion, these bands rock (as do many others), and to the best of my knowledge are still active:

The Immortal Lee County Killers
The Bulemics
Acid King
Thrall
Lubricated Goat
Porn (The Men of)
Sonic Youth
The Fall
The Cows
Areola 51

There are many ways to rock, young grasshoppers... 8)

They're all in the "suck" genre, or at least that's what I classify them as.

So we are supposed to avoid the teenybopper MTV shit yet you've listed nothing but MTV shit. You honestly think Audioslave would be anywhere if wasn't for boy teenyboppers who get every musical idea that springs into their heads from MTV and the like? Seriously, those bands (all ten) would not even exist if MTV did not exist first. Period.

Aside from Queens of the Stone Age (which is borderline at best with all their flowery 'I miss my girlfriend' so-called rock) nobody but MadSteelDarkness has even mentioned what I consider to be an ACTUAL Rock Band in this thread yet. Metallica used to be but then 1989 came.

Here's one: Zeke www.zekeyou.com Those guys'll whoop somebody's ass for merely implying that System of Downs Syndrome is somehow one of the last remaining "ACTUAL Rock Bands".

Spinal Tap

I used to care whether a band was on MTV or not, but then I turned 14. Mainstream or no, the Chili Peppers and Parliament Funkadelic shit all over your favourite groups (targeted at no one in particular).

I would consider funk to be a type of rock...blues-based guitar music anyways.

Days of the New (which is essentially Travis Meeks) is fantastic. Artsy acoustic thrash rock? Must...hear...more!
