Joystick Grips

Post by Moniker »

What's a good joystick grip for shmups when playing with the arcade pad across your lap? I'm pretty comfortable with the "wineglass" grip when I'm at my desk, but it absolutely kills my wrist when I'm lounging in front of my 360. I checked a few youtube vids but they were mostly for FTGs and I could sense my chance of getting laid in the near future drop precipitously with each minute clocked watching. Need to be able to nudge dodge without risk of carpal tunnel...

Yup, that's the one that seems bent on regrowing my virginity. Haven't tried all of them since my wrist is now dead. No Homo actually looks sorta promising... :|

The way he carresses the top plate is disturbing.

I find videos with disembodied hands disturbing in general.

I prefer the top grip myself. If you rest your wrist on the stick body, you can get quite a lot of precision and it's easy to tap.

Myself and pretty much everyone I know uses the 'monkey grip', never saw anyone using other kinds of grip before. Watching that one guy beating DOJ Death Label with the wineglass grip was mindblowing.

What about a stick with 9 cm. of height? Once I tried a small stick, 5 cm., on arcade machine and was dissapointed.
"Monkey-wineglass" stuff brings a different attitude toward gameplay, though.

Im not sure if I'm seeing this correctly but isn't that guy holding down the bomb button from before the level starts? If so, thr only reason for it that I can imagine is to deploy a panic bomb faster by simply letting go of the button (similar to negative edge techniques used in fighting games). In theory, this should work for most if not all games. Worth trying out.
