MODDING A TVC STICK CASE FOR A NEO PINOUT

Post by charlie chong »

i've had to downgrade to a supergun with neo geo pinouts for my pcbs recently and i am fed up of neo sticks already.they are better with a bigger balltop but still nowhere near as good as a sanwa or semitsu stick
anyone know what is the best/cheapest stick/case to stick the innards of a neo stick in. i know you just have to desolder the pcb part for the buttons and add a jst connector to the stick side of the lead.
is a capcom vs tatsunoko suitable for modding with a semitsu or sanwa and sanwa buttons?
if anyone has any other ideas let me know.
would this be suitable or are the buttons soldered on?

many thanks

TvC sticks can be modded with anything you like, lots of room inside. And Mad Catz sells them for $40 now from their online store.

just wondering where the start buttons/select buttons will be on one of these tvc sticks and how are they handled(i won one for £16 on ebay but haven't got it yet).
i guess since i will only be using 6 buttons at most i could just wire to one of the spare buttons but it would be better to use the stock start/select buttons.are they attached to one of the pcbs in the pic above??can i just wire them in to the existing wiring for the pcb that controls them?
thanks

Yeah the + and - buttons are on the back side, that small PCB you see on the top-left in the pic. Just follow where the grey and white wires go to the terminal strip, unplug them, then do whatever you want. I would leave the PCB intact, they are not micro-switched buttons and no point in messing around with soldering.

Just got 2 of these new for $25 shipped each :) Price has gone up to $42, though, so you might as well just snag one from Madcatz, directly.

all modded and i got nothing bad to say about these sticks. plenty of useful wiring to cannabalize , cheap as chips , surprisiingly weighty and once you stick a semitsu in, it feels like butter! thanks for the recommendation shmuppylove :) the biggest headache was desoldering the neo stick and working out where the wires go.
lucky i had a spare ls32 lying round so didn't even have to wire a jst connector to the stick side.there is one you can cannibalize inside the tvc tho if you wanna go sanwa
