Getting Sanwa parts for a HRAP 2

Post by Raytrace »

Hi,

I have a HRAP 2 and while I like the stick (I kinda like it's looseness) I want to get convex Sanwa buttons for it and maybe a spare Sanwa Stick.

I have 2 questions - is it proper easy to swap the parts (I'm useless at that sort of thing), and which parts on these pages would work:

http://www.gremlinsolutions.co.uk/order ... uttons.php

I'm kinda confused - are all these sticks 'square' gate by default with octagonal as option, or are they all octagonal (I prefer square) -

http://www.gremlinsolutions.co.uk/order ... sticks.php

Sorry for the pure n00b questions, any help is much appreciated :)

HRAP series are dead easy to mod. Open it up and take a look!

Any 30mm button will fit, I prefer screw-ins since I find the tabs on the snap-ins hard to squeeze, and I've also broken one or two, but whatever you like is fine. Try both! They're hardly expensive.

The JLF comes with a square gate by default. It can easily be swapped for the octo-gate if you prefer it without having to remove the joystick. The gates snap onto the bottom.

You'll be wanting the obsf 30 buttons for the main face ones 24 for smaller [if you're doing these - basically any of the top 3 on http://www.gremlinsolutions.co.uk/order ... uttons.php]

As for stick I'm not 100% sure whether you'll want the mounting plate or not [be aware these are bit of a bitch to remove from a sanwa stick due to the screws being melted/glues in so worth getting this right]. So best open up you're stick and confirm what that mounting area looks like.

This guide is probably what you want :) :

There is another version for the SA stick that might be worth a read for a couple of pointers [but this has a sanwa as stock already so prob different in the stick department]:

cool I'll check that stuff out - for the 24 you mean the 'Select' and 'Start' buttons do you? - I'm not going to bother replacing them I don't think...

interesting what that guy says that Seimitsu sticks are used for Capcom fighters - cause the main reason I dont play 2D fighters on my stick (I play 3D fighters on it) is because I can never reliably pull off dragonpunches :( (which I can with Saturn or MadcatZ SFIV pad) - maybe I should try a Seimitsu stick :o, and emm will most seimitsu sticks fit in there?

cool I'll get a bunch of them soon :) - have you tried the transparent with snap on top ones (so you can put pics in) - are they as sturdy as the solid ones?

I might actually just be super scabby and nick the buttons from my Agetec DC stick (I got on eBay and it has Sanwa parts) so I'll have 6 out of 8 Sanwa fire buttons! :D

Depends on the user, really.

Learn to use a stick properly and you'll be able to do any input on any stick properly. :wink:

Yeah... I sanwa is generally considered the standard for fighters but there's a strong legacy for neo geo cabs to come with seimitsu...

But it's very much user preference.

Basically seimitsu == shorter throw
Sanwa == bit more give

I would suggest the seimitsu requires more precision, and is less forgiving, but conversely is more sensitive. If you feel your timing and placement are correct but you're just not engaging fully seimitsu maybe for you. However, if you're looking for something more forgiving you're probably looking at sanwa.

At the end of the day; either way you'll be able to learn either. But if you want to arcade/play with other friends sticks with fighters you'll prob be best advised to go sanwa just due to commonality.

also worth bearing in mind is that the semitsu parts wear out quicker when playing fighters (especially when you stick to one side the sticks get unbalanced)

ah i c interesting - I modified my ball grip (!) last night while playing Gradius I (MAME) and I could definitely feel that it was scraping the edges more :/

are the sticks basically the same as say the old Cheetah 125 for the C= 64 inside (4 rectangles with a little microswitch nub on them), arranged in a square around the stick's base?

Yep that's the principle. I'd hazard a guess that the build and acrylic makes it smoother than those cheetah's but can't say I've compared.

You can get stick extensions to make taller, or of course change circle/square gates which can change the feel - but it's always pretty damn smooth, just limited/angled differently. It shouldn't feel like a scrape or a grind :/ ... Gates are swap-in-clip-in inter-changable. Specify you want square gate and it should come with. Otherwise £1/2 and 1 min to clip in the other gate.

cool yeah I had the transparent Cheetah 125+ so that's how I knew what it looked like inside
