Picking this back up after a year... of building up my self-confidence to tackle this game, lol. So, progress checkpoint at 13 hours on the port's in-game timer.

moozooh - 50,715,758 - 1-5 - Tiger Schwert - X360 Arcade

Got a half-decent stage 1 (over 10 million), played the rest pretty conservatively, concentrating on survival. No-miss/no-bomb until Vinogradov (where I had to forfeit the 1-up due to unfavorable conditions where dying was almost a given), no-miss/no-bomb Black Draft (woo, practice paid off!). Got reasonably deep into stage 5 and would definitely have gotten deeper had I had one more bomb for the surefire way of getting the second 1-up. As it stood I got overwhelmed a few seconds before the clone choppers appeared.

That being said, 1-ALL is finally in sight. Ideally I should have both bonus 1-ups as well as at least one less stupid death, and that should be enough for getting through the rest of stage 5. Evaccaneer needs from 2 to 4 bombs according to my tests, which is much easier than the stage itself—as well as most other final bosses in Cave games, looping or otherwise. Also nice to reach 50 mil, the score checkpoint I had in sight (gotta love how this score barely puts me into top-100...). Gonna shoot for 70 million now!

moozooh - 196,770,296 - 5 - Tiger Schwert - X360 X-Mode

This came out of the blue after like 5-6 credits in a row all ending up between 125 and 145 million. Mostly thanks to unexpectedly good survival in early part of the run (no-miss until deep into st4 boss fight) and getting both bonus 1-ups. Stage 5 was where it all crashed down, with me dying on the final clone chopper stretch before Evaccaneer. Not 200 million, but it moves me up from the last place, so not complaining. :D

Also, man9child is listed twice on X-Mode board. Ransom, Ayanami, and gs68 are listed twice on Arcade board. drboom as well, second time as "rboom". Good old Zakk... :D

yeah you need the 1-ups then you will be able to pwn evacaneer.i would suggest credit feeding from here. the backwards section and the bit with the swirly bullets after is tricky tho and can sap all your lifes if you are not quick on the bomb button tho :x

Don't hate. :)

Coming from someone who has never, you know, actually beaten this thing, Evacaneer is not that hard. It's just getting there. I have it in my head that if I can stretch my first life out until I run out of bombs and not just throw away a 4 or 5 bomb stock every game that I'll have a chance. I don't tend to die in the same spots though, mostly just randomly from losing focus.

I've been hovering around my old high score mark. I'm wondering if I should start trying to milk bosses for chips in the early stages while I hack away towards the 1cc.

True, so true. The tunnel descent section is such a rape (my god, do I hate that huge chopper!), and the clone chopper stretch right before Evaccaneer isn't easy either. I think those two sections alone take more bombs than Eva on average for a player of my level.

I've analyzed Eva's patterns, and most of them aren't hard if you know what to do. I'll try making a reference guide like I did for Futari...

1-1. Round blue and red bullets are sprayed uniformly; long blue lines are aimed in your general direction but not exactly at your position (you can sometimes dodge them without moving). Red bullets are by far the biggest danger as they can trap you near the end of the pattern, so the objective here is to always give yourself some dodging room. Hardest pattern of the first phase.
1-2a. Blue layer at the beginning is shot mainly so that you could conveniently run into a lone bullet while going for the opening in the red layer, so mind that.
1-2b. Go to the bottom of the screen and position yourself a hitbox's width to the right of the center. There, dodged.
1-3. I've found that dodging this one is easier if you do it near the edge of the screen as opposed to the center, as otherwise you're about to be trapped by the long red stretch that is shot across the screen.
1-4. One of the easier patterns. Dodge small blue bullets, then large ones. Large bullets home in on your position with a small lag, so they need to be herded away. A common mistake here is changing direction in the middle of a salvo, thus having to go against the stream of accelerated large bullets.
2-1. Macrododging blue stretches and going through the lanes on the red sprays (ideally macrododging them as well) is the way to go. Can be dangerous if the last (fastest) red spray catches you in an awkward position. Not being shy with lateral movement is a good strategy.
2-2. Stand near the bottom, ideally close to the horizontal center. Bullets will be mostly aimed right at you, so note the direction the shots are coming from first, and do a ∞-shaped movement around them. Once it clicks it becomes really easy; the actual danger there is in the shrapnel that's flying around randomly and tends to get in your way.
2-3. This one is really tricky, as blue bullets curve their trajectory to home in on you. You can either go up in Eva's face while going through the lanes of red bullets, or let go of A-shot and dodge underneath. This one is an almost guaranteed bomb for me.
3-1. Same as 2-2 for the most part, except the motion is continuous and there seem to be more bullets. Easier than 2-3 imo.

x91 - 351,284,464 - Tiger Schwert - OMOTE ALL

Picking up the pace. The loop is still lack of steady practice. 2-5 would have screwed me up, if there hasn't been two odd dodges in respective areas.

Cleared with 1 remaining ship and no bombs. Oops.

One death at 1-4 mid boss crushed the attempt for ura loop, so when facing Evacaneer's last pattern and things go wrong, I just bombed.

Then started the omote loop with 229mil. lol

After a little bit of discussion elsewhere, I figured I'd post my OLD January score of me hitting the Ura loop...I pretty much went cold turkey on Ketsui up until this week ever since this score:
Image

Resume - 191,757,560 - Panzer Jager - 2-3 Ura

Edit: Holy shit I didn't remember it being that high I thought I had 170 Mil or so

Couple days ago this happens to me after getting back into it:

Gonna curb stomp this first loop completely again soon enough...

Moving up!

moozooh - 59,487,054 - 1-5 - Tiger Schwert - X360 Arcade

Stage 1: alright, got almost 11 million.
Stage 2: decent; had to bomb once but finished the stage with 30 million.
Stage 3: went alright until the midboss, the rest was a complete pushover. Failed to get the 1-up yet again despite nm/nb'ing the entire lifebar phase. Died three times to the boss, wow.
Stage 4: atrocious scoring but great survival-wise. Spent only one bomb on the stage (at the end section with two large helicopters), and two bombs on the boss; nm/nb'd th midboss (woo!).
Stage 5: very bad, died twice without bombing, both times stupidly. Didn't reach the 1-up chopper.

Checkpoint: 17 hours in-game time. I'm wondering if I can 1-ALL it by 20, or at least reach 70 million...

Another small improvement.

man9child - 115,892,252 - 1-ALL - Tiger Schwert - PCB

Personal best, set while my girlfriend was messing around with the radio changing songs every 30 seconds as added distraction. :P

I'm remarkably consistent in the first two stages. I almost always hit the first extend as the 2nd midboss blows up and I usually hit the second right after or during the 3rd midboss. I want to get those early stage scores up, though. Time to start milking the first boss at least. I also throw away so many points in stage 5.

The goal is to reach the loop, but I'm very far off. I don't just want to try not bombing, because then I'll probably be on my last life (or close to it) if I ever get there.

RAWRAAGRAGWGRAGWRAGWRGAWGRAWGRAGWRGARGH. Missed the stage 3 1-up, gameover'd right before the last large tank in the tunnel. I will fucking beat you, game, I promise! Not this week, though.

(Also, man9child has two entries on the board.)

Sadness aside, this credit went very well until at least stage 3 boss, where my first death had happened. I had almost 14 million by stage 2, 33 or so by stage 3, and over 50 by stage 4, with Vinogradov 1-up successfully taken, and over 70 by stage 5. I died twice (I think) on stage 4, failed to get the stage 5 1-up due to reflex bombing right before the first chopper appeared, and died a little too many times with bombs in stock.

Revised score plan: 15-35-55-75-100 million (clear).

[EDIT]
moozooh - 94,659,084 - 1-5 - Tiger Schwert - X360 Arcade

Game over at Evaccaneer's second phase, I need just a little fucking push.

[EDIT2]
Actually got the 1-ALL! The score is 86 million, so will keep playing until I hit my goal.

Thanks, and yes, the current goal is a 100 million clear. After that, a decent X mode clear; I'm looking for 300 million, but I have no solid plan yet.

moozooh - 208,043,782 - 5 - Tiger Schwert

This run was so bad I don't even know where to begin. For something that I know I can more-or-less safely no-miss, this seems to be the ultimate stupid death galore. At least I now know I can get 300 million in this mode.

Controversial opinion: the scoreboard should either be capped @ 25 or only 100 million+ scores should be accepted.
