Daytona USA / XBLA / PSN / 10/26

Post by antares »

The original Daytona USA with slightly enhanced graphics and 16:9 mode is coming to XBLA in just two weeks:

And yes, it's Daytona, not Sega Racing Classics!

Yeah, makes you wonder if Sega is developing a brand new Daytona secretly (surely they didn't buy the Daytona license only for one old arcade game)?

Is it too much to ask for the 3 tracks from the PC CE? Well, I plan on reliving the game anyway; good memories.

I'm underwhelmed. Yes, Daytona USA is awesome, but it had a bunch of home ports already. Worse, it doesn't look like this one will include the improved graphics, music, new cars and extra tracks from the Dreamcast version or the Circuit Edition.

When will Sega give us Daytona USA 2, Scud Race, Dirt Devils, Wave Runner GP, Club Kart, F355 2, King of the Road, R Tuned, Race TV...?

While the extra tracks would be nice I prefer a Daytona USA port with good controls.
Sad as it is, the last port to actually have that distinction was the Saturn rev.

8-players, just the way we used to do it, except now we don't need 4 linked cabinets. See you all on XBox Live 8)

Going to have to get this on PSN as that's the console I actually own a steering wheel for.

Evertime I fire that game up on my Saturn, the theme song gets stuck in my head, now's my chance to get a better looking version and have it stuck in my head all over again. Thanks PSN/XBLA and Sega. :)

Agreed! these companies always rerelease those games that have the most ports, coverage. We want those games we have never even seen in the wild! That said I will get Daytone on psn if my ps3 still works and my accounts are still active. Haven´t touched the ps3 in ages. It´s in a box somewhere.

And a good force-feedback steering/gas & brake pedal setup would needed for that precise control on the PS3/360 platforms. The Modesto, CA based Funworks arcade in my area still has a classic Sega Daytona USA cabinet, although it's just a single two-player cab at best.

nice to see. I hope it does well. I'd appreciate a pc release, but then I'd probably just keep using the model 2 emu.

And yeah, they must have plans for a new game if they paid for that license.

Fingers crossed... Maybe Daytona 3 is in the works after all. It's heartening to hear "Dayyyy-tohhhhh-nahhhhh!" at the start of that video. Watch the Dreamcast and Saturn tracks show up later as DLC for another $10-15. It's a shame the original Saturn version didn't have at least half this framerate.

Hopefully the first-ever console version of Daytona 2 can't be far behind.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

That game will need more licensing.

Ferrari is going to expire in december with sega and I think they would also need the porsche license.

But I NEED Scud Race in my house!!
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

The tracks of F355 2 are in the DC and PS2 versions. The DC version does not support 16:9 in 480p. Luckily the PS2 version can be forced to 480p with GSM! and it supports 16:9 while in 480p!
Also has a few extra modes. That said, the DC version looks a bit better, but there´s not a humongous difference as far as I can tell.

Sega announced that Daytona USA was ported in-house by a team known as AM Port Team. The same team already ported Virtua Fighter 5, After Burner Climax, Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram and Dennou Senki Virtual-On Force to consoles.

Great news, ab Climax is off the chain. I should play it more often. But it´s kinda hard to be realy good at Climax.
So when the hell is the psn Daytona coming and why always later than the 360 version (well, because the ps3 is harder to program for. ok, figures)

I'll download it later today but what I've read so far sounds great: Constant 60fps, almost all pop-ups eliminated, arcade perfect controls :)

That is actually great news for me at least.
Did you try putting your console on 480p in the system menu or whatever it´s called. Perhaps on 4:3, 480p. Do you get blak borders top and bottom?
Or what did you want exactly? to put it on a 480p monitor right? then you´ll just have the top and bottom borders hopefully.

This port is amazing, I'm still absolutely giddy about it. Daytona USA is probably my favorite game, and after 18 years we FINALLY get an arcade accurate port. I put about 6 hours into the ps3 version last night and was sitting on top of the Advanced Time Trial leaderboard last I checked. Planning to snag the 360 version as well tonight, really hoping this does well enough that they continue on to Scud Race or Daytona 2. Considering they went to the trouble to regain the license, I think a Daytona 2 port is looking more likely now than it ever has.

480p 4:3 = Letterboxed 16:9. At least this game has a proper 16:9 mode, it's not like Guwange or DS2 all over again. Still, Outrun Arcade Online had better 4:3 AND 16:9. Daytona USA is very impressive looking and fun though and WELL worth 800 pts.

Good to hear that the 360 port of Daytona USA supports 16:9 aspect ratio on a 4:3 monitor setup. Yeah, it'd be nice if it did have true 4:3 support from the get-go.

So does the PS3 version of Daytona USA support the PS2/PS3 released Logitech force-feedback steering wheels or not?

From what I've read it supports all Logitech wheels on the PS3 and all XBox 360 wheels.
