Nano Assault - 3DS Shmup From Shin'en

Post by BulletMagnet »

Noticed this here.

I wasn't big on Nanostray personally, but I know there are fans of Shin'en's work on here, so the topic is left to you.

Nanostray 2 was a huge step forward from the first one and Iridion II, only crippled by bosses/midbosses that took too long to kill and kept cycling through the same 3 patterns over and over. If someone explaines to them how to make bossfights fun, this could really be something. Hopefully, all stages will be horizontally orientated ones.

Loved Iridion II.. Thought Nanostray was, er.. a massive step backwards (or at least in the wrong direction). Never tried Nanostray II (after the first, I didn't have high hopes--or interest--in it). May be curious to see how this new one turns out, I guess..

I thought Nanostray 2 was fantastic except for the bosses. Those dull boss fights make it tough to replay, and all they did with higher difficulties was give them more health.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Gameplay video from E3. Mario Galaxy - the shooter. The ship looks like a cross between the Radiant Silvergun and R-type ships, which it turns out look pretty good merged.
IGMO - Poorly emulated, never beaten.

This game looks really cool. It's like an arena shooter where the plane is a planet surface. I hope there's more to it than the gameplay in that video though. Seems really simple and more like a spectacle, just like Nanostray 2's bosses.

I'm pretty impress by the trailer. Definitely a good mixture of arena/railshooter gameplay. And that music! Looking forward for this game to be released.

Looking back at that gameplay video, my only complaint is for the arena stages: no indicator where the enemy is at? I would say it's on the bottom screen, but dunno what Shin'en's intentions for it.

That looks pretty cool. I might get a 3DS if it gets more of these unique and innovative arcade-style games like the DS got in its first 2 years. Also regarding Nanostray I'm pretty sure it was meant as a beginner shmup. I loved it back when I hated Ikaruga for being too hard but yeah, it was unplayable when I tried going back to it.

Super impressive! After Nanostray 2, I'd be willing to take a chance on whatever they offer. And I'm a sucker for the 3D graphics of this machine. Just can't play for very long, as it exhausts the eyes. Good system for quick pick-up-n-play titles.

It's too bad the 3DS is region-f****d. I'd buy one in a snap.

Agreed, but I'm holding a candle of hope that the inevitable 3DS revision will come region free simply because Nintendo will do anything to try to rectify its poor sales. Yes, even if that means letting people buy games from other countries (gasp!)

Ugh.

Who thought it would be a great idea to remake Microcosm?

Nano Assault is part of a 3DS game deal of buy 2 games for $40 from a selected alloted group at the USA based Toys-R-Us locations this week (from 12/18/11 through 12/24/11). Check out the back cover spread of the TRU advertising supplement dated 12/18/11 to see what games are listed besides the 3DS NA game.

Here's what I know after 20 mins. with this: It's beautiful to behold! Easily among the very best 3DS games I've played in terms of visuals. The controls are familiar and intuitive. Nice how the levels are reasonably short and plentiful. Maybe it will take a turn for the worse, but so far I'm impressed.

Please keep impressions going on this game.

Actually, it might make me think twice about buying 3DS now, does anyone know if they planned to release a wider screen 3DS, ala 3DSXL ?

I haven't heard anything official yet but just like they have done with older handheld consoles (expecially DS) I'm pretty sure they will release an improved model soon. Since they dropped the price of 3DS after all this negative response about how expensive it is it will be stupit if they won't do something about region lock.

I doubt that nearly as many people are complaining about the region-locking, unfortunately.

It's in nobody's interest but the consumer's to drop the region locking. Don't hold your breath; it's never going to happen. The only hope for playing 3DS games region free is a homebrew hack like the Wii has that bypasses the region check.

Went down to the local Toys-R-Us and inquired about the 3DS Nano Assualt game. Was told that two copies were listed on the computer inventory system & two TRU employees searched high & low for them. They weren't found...which lead me to conclude that they were sold earlier during the buy two 3DS game for $40 offer promotion last week.

Upon trying to exit the TRU parking lot, ran into traffic gridlock (since all traffic was trying to head on down to the local mall for last minute Christmas Eve shopping). Just insane with the last minute X-Mas shopping procrastinating madness. Took like ten to fifteen minutes to travel a scant quarter mile (which reminds me of the infamous & notorius bumper-to-bumper Bay Area traffic during rush hour -- that's no fun either).

I got it today at GameStop for $20. Only 1 store in my area had it.
I played through the first boss. I like it a lot. The ground levels remind me of Mario galaxy and super stardust HD. The flight levels are a lot like starfox.

The graphics are great all bump mapped. Impressive really. Had good sound and control, for $20 you can't go wrong.

Yeah, I picked this up on Amazon after noticing it was only $20. Only thing that bugs me is that the rail shooting sections don't have an option to invert the Y-Axis, but you get used to it.

Yep, Gamestop sells new copies of Nano Assualt for $19.99 right now. I picked up a copy from my local GS a couple of weeks ago at that asking price.

For anyone interested there will apparently be enhanced versions of this for the WiiU and 3DS: Nano Assault Neo for the former and Nano Assault EX for the latter. The former will apparently add in 2-player co-op and dual-analog control.

Bumping this thread to let people know that Nano Assault EX will be out on the 3DS eShop this week in both NA and PAL territories. 14.99EUR for the PAL version, I imagine it'll be $14.99 in NA.

Good to hear, I like this on the Wii U and I'm sure it'll look great in 3D. Thanks for the heads-up.

The Wii U Nano Assault Neo is a different game. Nano Assault EX is the original 3DS Nano Assault with added features.
