Fuck, all of my Metal Black videos on YT have just been removed, due to an infringement claim by Taito. :(

Doing their bit to protect gaijin ears from classic game music, I see.  Sorry to hear that man, your track descriptions were also awesome! I didn't really peg how much "Dio Panic" sounded like the soundtrack to some unhallowed voodoo ritual in space until relistening to your upload of it.

Cheers! The tracks were so benignly used, and so far out in who-the-fuck-cares territory, that I never even suspected they'd find anything, much less give a shit. It's not like they ever do anything with the IP, eh? I hope the soundtrack has gone up on iTunes or something.

I wonder if I should pull down my run of the game before they find mine. It's a crappy game and run anyways. The music is pretty sweet though :) .

As far as I can tell, Taito has been removing OST rips for a few months now while leaving game footage intact. For example, most of the G-Darius tracks that were uploaded years ago are gone while Smraedis', Icarus', and DJ Incompetent's runs haven't been messed with. I say leave your Metal Black run up. :)

Gradius III on loop 3. And who knows if the player got farther, the video doesn't end with him dying.

Seriously, I have to admire the physical and mental endurance of the top Japanese players. I mean, loop 3 of Gradius III (on the actual PCB too), maxing out the score of Gradius Rebirth on the 290th loop.....jesus. I thought I was good when I beat the first loop :).

A little bit off topic: why do you lose half your lives on Gradius 3 as seen at 0:59? Glitch?
Have to say, that's a beastly run on loop 3.

It's a glitch in the extra-player routine.

When you earn an extra ship, if this causes you to have 10 or more lives, the game subtracts the number of life tiles displayed on screen to whatever the ones digit is. For example, if you are going from 9 lives to 10, it will erase the tiles and show none, and if you go from 10 to 11, it will display one tile, etc.

In the run, the life meter is occassionally "fixed" because the player is using the 'life-to-options' as the ! powerup. This routine converts a maximum of 4 lives to options, and it correctly displays all of the lives you have on the screen. Of course when you earn another ship that routine will erase it again.

And if it's not clear, the glitch only affects the display, the game still knows you have 15 or whatever lives. It doesn't take them away.

Who knows if its a glitch, or if it was a lazy attempt by Konami to prevent glitches like in Gradius II, if you get enough lives, the game just starts placing the life tiles all over the top of the screen, up to if you get 100 lives, the game terminates play with an automatic game over.

Video Demo of Gradius II game over from too many lives on PCB

I like how the slowdown is almost down to the level of the SNES version. Not that it makes it any easier of course... Now all I need to see is Truxton II looped that far and I will be convinced the impossible is possible.

Loop 3 and onwards of Truxton II is exactly the same as loop 2, the rank doesn't increase. So if you can survive loop 2, you can play endlessly.

I'm watching this presently and perhaps it's been a while since I've seen a higher loop Gradius 3 replay but I think it's fair to say this one of the best available. This guy really knows his way around the stages, it's humbling yet quite interesting to watch.

So what if he did? A man is entitled to his opinion, doesn't mean it needs to coincide with yours. And that's that.

Too bad the one guy that did manage to survive the 2nd loop had to use a continue at the final boss. :(

Version 2 of G-Darius played on the Omicron route. God, I love the timer-based scoring system. Also; two back-to-back misses right at the end= very intense battle with G.T.

That Futari BL God mode superplay ranks among the best ever. The creativity and strategy, the execution, the perfection (no-miss with max bombs?!)...unreal. Stage 2 and the stage 4 and 5 boss fights have some of the ballsiest manuevers I`ve ever seen.

Nicovideo requires you to register and log in, but you can get around that by using these links:

Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4

If you're interested in signing up, you can find several English guides by searching for 'nico video register' or something similar. This page was quite helpful when I registered a few years ago, but I imagine it's out of date.

He lists all the scoring mistakes he makes, which is to say two things throughout the course of the entire game.

Damn.

One of the craziest replays I've seen for sure, I had to sit back and laugh at the sheer ridiculousness of some of the stuff going on in the late stages, and Larsa was awesome - nerves of steel right there. The dude deserves his WR, that's for sure.

I wonder if we'll see a higher score - the God record seems to have been worked on a lot lately.
