Fuck yeah.

All things considered this run was not very good. I came into the Larsa fight with only 1 spare life and just about all my deaths before that were in big scoring spots with a few other botches here and there. I know I could break 1 billion if I really wanted to but this mode just isn't giving me the same rush as God mode.
Great job! I just watched your replay, and yeah, you could easily break 1 billion if you nailed all of your strategies up to Larsa. The deaths on stage 3 and 4 probably cost you 60+ million, plus the end of game life bonuses. You could take #2 on XBL for sure (1.02b), but #1 might be tough (1.15b).

Anything you're aiming for next? Back to God/Ultra?

Just got 256 million on Original with Reco, still not high enough for the top 20, but I'm quite happy with it.

I've played the game for way too long already, I think I'll have to do much better to stay on there.
But I'll try :P

Thanks. Probably gonna try to get 1 billion in BL Maniac since I feel like something easier after the work I put into that.

Just chiming in to congratulate Gus on his awesome score. The combination of God mode and 1.5 Maniac really makes Futari the best shooter ever, imo.

Black Label- 360- God
Enigma- 1,018,763,299 - Stage 4 Boss- Reco

I completely got screwed by Stage 2 and 3, so many bad mistakes. I still think the stage 2 and 3 midbosses are total BS. I don't know how to handle the second half of stage 3. Apparantly can't do the misdirection trick on stage 3 boss now. Entered Stage 4 on my last life. quickly bomb twice on stage 4. Use my last bomb on one of the big enemies that always screws me up on Maniac and God. So I have to do everything up to the boss after that without bombing. Pull some extremely lucky dodges and make it to the boss.

Okay, with that 1 bomb, I'm actually going to get to Stage 5 then quickly die there. Wait, what the hell do you mean I died to the easy as hell first attack from the stage 4 boss?

Watch some replays, dude. It's actually better for your score to just use 2 bombs on the stage 2 mid-boss and kill it ASAP so more enemies appear after it.

I have enough trouble just trying to survive. I did 2 bomb the stage 2 midboss in that run, but it's usually 1 bomb for me. And No Miss No Bomb is better for score in the end, but I obviously can't do that. Going into Larsa with 6 bombs would pretty much be required for most people to get the TLB, but of course I don't ever hope to do that. I'm just trying to beat the mode. Wasting 2 bombs on the stage 2 midboss instead of 1 or sometimes none doesn't help me with that. Plus I have so much trouble with the second half of the stage and boss as well.

If I knew a consistent way for that stage 3 midboss, it'd be nice, but I've pretty much accepted having to take a bomb use or death there depending how badly stage 2 went. I pretty much need to get Stage 2 and 3 completely down though. Stage 4 is a lot easier than either of them outside of certain enemy types.

When I say to 2 bomb the stage 2 mid-boss I mean to point blank it with rapid shot as soon as it appears and while doing that bomb it before it has the chance to fire anything at you. If kill it fast enough that way 2 or 3 of those flying lobsters and a manta will appear for some easy points. Playing for score or not I think it's better to just do that and have an extra 100m added to your score than to try to tough it out and possibly die. There's no shame in needing a bomb for the stage 3 mid-boss either. This isn't Ultra we're talking about where every stage has at least a couple "holy shit" patterns and there's a ridiculous final boss. So long as you can get to Stage 5 with 2 or 3 lives you'll be fine. Just stay focused and I'm sure you'll beat it in no time.

The Mantas are one of my problems with that stage. I didn't know that were even more of those things available that could ruin my day.

Am I the only who bothered studying some of the strategies used in the high scoring replays?

You're probably the only one who bothered implementing them. BL Original can become stupidly hard when played for score, I guess most people just ragequit after a hundredth death in the first five minutes of a credit.

Really great job, man. I never got the run I was after in BL Original - there was always some kind of run-breaking mistake or two which led to repeated ragequits. How quickly did you manage to break 100k, and did you die before Larsa?

Thanks but trust me BL Original is nowhere near as hard or rage inducing as 1.5 Ultra. Anyway I got 100k around the beginning of stage 4 and died twice in stage 5 but kept the counter above 100k both times. I also botched some lantern cancels so 2 billion is definitely possible.

That's for sure, but it's not like many people tackled that one seriously either. :D

Getting overwhelmed by a torrent of solid purple that you know would be hard to get through alive definitely doesn't feel as frustrating as a restart necessary thanks to a very slight inaccuracy made when there are near to no bullets on the screen. Playing for score in BL Original is just really good at setting the stage for such fuckups, and punishing for them, too.
