Has anyone else checked out the Sonic Wings wiki? Ever since Wikipedia started removing "unencyclopedic" content, tons of fancruft-laden spin-off wikis have been launched (Mega Man wiki ugh), but TheShekinah really knows and loves his Video System.

Also, this series has one of my favorite shooter bosses.

It has to be said - I am gobsmacked by the fact that there are Psikyo fans out there who don't think much of the Sonic Wings series. Go play Sonic Wings Special as soon as possible. It's got tate mode if you need to know.

Er, I play it on a PS2 and if there's ANY slowdown, it's in the twinkling of an eye while I pointblank a cluster of choppers. It's so brief I'm not sure if it's really there.

I had the PS1 version a long time ago and all I remember about it is the annoyingly huge amount of characters/ships to choose from (with little difference between them) and lacking action (but I was comparing it to Strikers II and Gunbird 2 at the time, not Sengoku Ace). Wish this thread was bumped before I bought Jumping Flash 2 in the PSN store.

This is one of the very few games I still have for the Saturn. I kept it because there was something compelling about it in spite of its appearance and slight repetitiveness. Next time I get out the Saturn, I'm definitely giving this a go.

I'm a Psikyo fan. It's not that I don't think much of SWS, it's that Dragon Blaze, Gunbird 2 and Zero Gunner 2 kick the shit out of it. It's not as immediately engaging and nowhere near as interesting for scoring.

I don't bother with Sengoku Ace or Gunbird either, for much the same reasons. But I would take those games and SWS over Sol Divide.

Strikers 1945 II might kick the shit out of it, but SWS is still fun from time to time. I'd say it's average.. if it weren't for one thing..

Average shooters don't come with this much actually good content.
By the way, wasn't Ka-50 Hokum the first ever "ship" allowing you to lock its guns at your angle of choice? (I know there's a lock button in the Saturn port of Hyper Duel which also came out in 1996.) Weapon 0 in Zanac Special Version works a bit like it too.

Playing Aero Fighters showed me one of the most versatile shot types I've ever used; Hien and his FSX. Godlike. (In the 1st game at least)

This appeared on the PSN as a PS1 classic the other night for £3.99, might have to take a punt! I love me some Psikyo and need some PSP shmupping fun.

Do you expect it will have a tate option? That could be nice!

Tate is included. The US also has this game in the PSOne import section.
