I have some memories of playing arcade shooters in the 80s and 90s and have a couple I can't place.
One I played in an arcade in Japan in 1992, a horizontal scroller where you could fire bombs that made your enemies freeze and go silhouette, at which point you could run into them and your ship would change into the enemy's shape.
The other was much earlier (early '80s?), a top-scroller where you started by loading pieces of a space station in your ship, and if you completed the level it would be unloaded. I think there was some astronaut graphic when doing so, but I may be totally wrong.
Thanks for any help!

Sounds like BlazeOn.a horizontal scroller where you could fire bombs that made your enemies freeze and go silhouette, at which point you could run into them and your ship would change into the enemy's shape.
