No - but thanks for missing my entire point again, brainless. Beating a game and getting a high score compared to beating a game with a 1cc is a huge difference.

No confrontations here.

This isn't what you said. You don't seem to be the sharpest knife in the drawer so I'll help you out here--You said score doesn't matter unless it's a 1CC:

You said nothing of beating (1ccing) a game and getting a high score compared to beating (1ccing) a game. Now go away and come back when you've gotten a 1CC with a high score.

And this is your logic.

Like icarus, oxtu and twe said, the high score is what your aiming for and the 1cc should just come with score progression. I don't feel that a 1cc is that important, if you take DDP - it's a hard game to play for score, but not too challenging to 1cc/bomb-like-a-maniac

And must twe and elixir have an argument in every topic today?

It was only 2, and I'm done. There is no point in arguing with Elixir, he just comes back with endless nonsensical replies. Now that I know this, I won't bother replying to his messages anymore.

Since I cant 1cc anything but normal course in Batrider I go for score. But to be honest I would rather be able to 1cc a game than have a high(er) score.

I spend/have spent a lot of time playing endless doujin games like parsec47, nomltest, etc., where 1CC is basically undefinable. Considering only games for which 1CC makes sense, well, depends on the game. I would have expected that to be the overwhelming answer. If the score system sucks, just play for 1CC. If the game's too easy, 1CC doesn't mean a lot.

And, for me, most of the time, fun beats meaningful.

Interesting viewpoint. I agree with you in that I would play a shmup without a real scoring system (i.e. just blast everything on the screen), or with a crappy scoring system, for a 1CC rather than score (but, I don't play such shmups personally). Thanks for your input. :D

^^ Same here. I find that in most 8/16-bit generation console shooters, score is pretty much incidental as long as you kill everything you possibly can, and so I usually just play for completion on those games. With shooters that originated in the arcade, the reverse is usually true, and you have to know the rules of the game in order to score decently. With thoes games I tend to focus on scoring as well as I can on each individual stage, eventually working my way up to completing the game.

Of course, there are exceptions to the rule - ie Strikers 1945, where score is mostly dependant on completion.

Third point:

I play for fun !
:D

Sometimes for score, sometimes for 1 or more credits and sometimes only to enjoy the game for itsef ("interesseloses Wohlgefallen" when you know what i mean  )

When I get a game I play to win by any means necessary first, then to unlock any secrets, and then for score/1cc.

As long as I'm making progress, I'm having fun.

Depends on the game. DoDonPachi, Shiki 2 Psyvarier 2 and Giga Wing 2 compell me to play for score, even though I know I'm never going to reach the kind of scores I see a lot of people on this board achieving.

Trizeal, Giga Wing 1, DonPachi, and Garegga I play in the simple hope of a 1cc, irrispective of final score. What's the difference between the two sets of games? I haven't the faintest idea. Some scoring systems just feel more natural to me, or easier to fit in amongst my style of play than others I guess. The buzzing or scraping systems in particular give me a huge kick, even though I will eventually die as a direct result of overconfidence or plain cockyness.

Translation: I really can't be bothered trying to keep up with his replies, so I'll just call him a bad boy and run off crying.

You're damn right you're done. More threads like this, please. If my replies aren't making sense, I'd begin to question general reading abilities. Maybe 800x resolution is required? I'd like to recap.

- I said score doesn't count entirely if you don't "1cc" a game.
- You said it does.
- I said that 1cc'ing a shmup holds more credibility and bragging rights.
- You said it doesn't matter.

As for credibility.. you may want to try holding on to yours and stop crying ;_; it is a poll, get over it.

If I play for survival then I tend to get higher scores, if I play for score I die a lot sooner...

I find myself taking risks for higher scores often but this way I always fuck up... whereas if my one goal is to survive then I survive much longer and get bigger scores :D

To answer the question though, my priority is 1ccing a game, then after that I may go for higher scores if I still enjoy playing it.

I prefer the 1CC goal in old games with no specific scoring system

With the manic shooters, I prefer to play for score, and a good score contains 1CC bonuses (not always the case), so score and 1CC meet on that point

even with a "good" score in a manic, if I don't have the 1CC, I'm disapointed

I prefer to 1CC games to show to non-shmuppers, since they don't understand score systems. When they see the 1CC, they understand you've beaten the game.

i'm generally more interested in 1cc's -- or one credit survival generally, there are some games i'll never 1cc -- than scores. obviously as i'm working towards a 1cc, i'll refine my scoring technique on the early levels. and then there are games like psyvariar or ikaruga that are just pointless unless you're playing for score (er, no pun intended).
