That's the TE stick you linked to.
The SE is this one:

The SE is pretty compact for an 8-button stick, and is dead easy to mod with either Sanwa or Seimitsu parts.
You will probably have issues with doujin shmups though -- most Xbox sticks/controllers are designed to report the d-pad/joystick as a hat switch instead of a joystick. There are workarounds using joy2key or xpadder though.

No problems, I have a SE modded with Seimitsu parts. There is a slide switch at the top that lets you set the joystick to act as the Xbox D-pad or analogue stick.
edit: OK I'm an idiot. Didn't read clearly about the hat switch. I'd just run Joy2Key to get around that.

Ah ok, if there's a switch to select the mode, then setting it to "Analog" might work.

A friend of mine has both a SE and a TE and they work perfectly when we play fighting games or MAME on the PC. But we have issues when we connect a Hori Fighting Stick 3 (PS3&PC) and an 360 arcade stick at the same time.

From what I remember, the Hori PS3 sticks have issues unless you have an Intel USB controller.Kasbe wrote:A friend of mine has both a SE and a TE and they work perfectly when we play fighting games or MAME on the PC. 360 stuff should work with just about anything (I currently use a 360 pad on my PC, which has an AMD chipset).
Can you be more specific about the problem? Is the joystick detected at all? Is it listed in Game Controllers? If you're using XP, I think you need to install some drivers from Microsoft ... Vista and 7 should have them built-in.CHI wrote:sorry to intrude/hijack this thread but i'm also having a similar problem![]()

sorry, let me start again...shmuppyLove wrote:Can you be more specific about the problem? Is the joystick detected at all? Is it listed in Game Controllers? If you're using XP, I think you need to install some drivers from Microsoft ... Vista and 7 should have them built-in.
i'm using Windows7 (upgraded from Vista)... connected my EX2 fighting stick via USB...
the pc automaticly updated the software... i've checked that the stick works on the pc in Devices...
but once i run... shmupMAME... it does not read the stick

i've done the normal things like... file>properties>controllers... tab>input (this is where it doesn't work)...

You will have to remap the controls once you've launched the game. Hit 'TAB' to bring up the in-game menu.CHI wrote:sorry, let me start again...shmuppyLove wrote:Can you be more specific about the problem? Is the joystick detected at all? Ok that doesn't sound right.CHI wrote:that's exactly where it's not working/reading with the stickshmuppyLove wrote:You will have to remap the controls once you've launched the game. Hit 'TAB' to bring up the in-game menu.

You will need to use the keyboard to navigate until you get the stick controls mapped, don't try to use the stick until you have.
1. When you press TAB on the keyboard, does the in-game menu appear?
2. Using the keyboard, can you navigate to the controls for Player 1?
3. When you press ENTER on an input (Player 1 Up, for example), and then press UP on your joystick, what happens?
You're going to have to be very exact about what is/isn't working. If the joystick is connected and detected properly (i.e. you can see it and it responds correctly in control panel), then there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to map your inputs in MAME. There's something else going on.

i think the problem is number 3. nothing happens

the control panel reads the stick but once inside MAME it doesn't read it

i have used MAME before so input joystick is not a problem... ie: STG tournament four years and counting...
previous i've been using a Hori RAP with PS/USB connection and a Sega Virtua Stick High Grade (spadgy's) which has a USB connection, both of these i have no problems with...
but recently i have a J360 bundle so i thought i'll try using the 360 stick on MAME to see what's it like...

Erm, then I'm really not sure. I've used probably a dozen different controllers/joysticks over the years, both USB and PS/2, and never really had a problem getting it configured in MAME.
You have "Enable Joystick Input" checked in the Controller options?
