Batsugun crashing in MAME

Post by ratikal »

Whenever I try to load or save a state, sometimes MAME crashes all together. I get the whole "MAME has stopped working" dialog box and it is VERY annoying. I shouldn't have to pray just so I can practice something.

Does anyone else have this issue? Does anyone have a solution? I want to have sound so obviously going to an older version isn't the answer.

I am using MAMEUI32 143u6, but have had the same troubles in mame.exe 143.

It's this bug

Just part of some of the really nasty damage Aaron Giles did to the project in the final year or two he was in charge. Too many half-assed, unfinished, not properly tested changes which linger on today. It's probably going to take years to repair all the damage.

Ouch. I was probably just lucky, but using Mame Plus 0.143, I used savestates in Batsugun quite often without issue. Might be worth giving a shot.

Speaking of Toaplan MAME bugs, has anyone had trouble with the controls on Truxton or Sky Shark? The controls on mine are really messed up, but only for the toaplan games. I'm using mame 143 and wolf141 self-compiled on mac.

What's wrong with the controls in them? They seem ok here.

The only one with control issues that I'm aware of is Fire Shark

Whereby if you mash the controls during respawn periods you can end up with the plane stuck moving one direction.. The quick analysis of the code I did would almost suggest that one to be an original game issue tho, and can't be related to the protection either because the protection really is just the sound on those.

Still crashes a lot. Looks like I'll have to deal with it...unless someone can point me to the toaplan sound samples used in ThunderMAME+. I heard it works on that, I just need these "samples."

In Flying Shark and Truxton, when I press
left: shoots as well as move
down: bomb as well as move
up: moves normally
right: moves diagonally down/left

I'm using a version compiled from source (currently 143) on the mac and I saw the same behavior with mame141. I haven't noticed any other strange behavior with other games.

I see no reason why any of those things would happen.

Try deleting your config files for the games?

At worst it could be something Mac specific, but in all honesty it just sounds like your config files are messed up.

I tried deleting the config files, but it didn't change the behavior. I noticed it awhile ago and just figured it was related to the mac-compile. The one difference I noticed is that in Flying shark pressing right moves the plane diagonally forward-right instead of diagonally back-left :? .
