PS2 slim repair help

Post by mirkvid »

Hi Guys,

Last night my Slim PS2 JP model 77000 rapped out on me! Sounds like a slight clicking/ticking noise when the unit is trying to read the disk. My hunch is that its the track that the laser sits on. I found this: http://yahoo1080.com/product_1202.html

Has anyone here ordered parts from them or done this fix? The unit is 4 years old, but only has about 20 hours of play! Kind of strange, it's the only PlayStation I've ever owed that crapped out on me (out of seven different consoles).

Thanks!

Its the control arm not the laser sleds. You should open it up blow out all the dust first(there will be lots of dust) Then remove all the grease on both sides of the sleds with a q-tip (also the worm gear and the control arm) Then re-lube lightly with either white lithium grease or super-lube synthetic grease. If the clicking persists u might have to remove the control arm with a precision screwdriver and slightly bend the control arm to increase the tension on the worm gear. Also check the arms teeth as they might be worn down to the point you might have to replace it(very cheap on ebay) Good luck
