Best shmup soundtrack?
Best shmup soundtrack?
I have to admit, I love opera and music of class. My age aside, I appreciate such talent from composers as Arjen Lucassen and Tarja Turunen. I'm voting for Ikaruga simply because of the music's class and priority.
I believe I've covered most shmups.

Brainless, if you've ever tried to create a poll without failing you'd realize there's a limit on how many options you can have.twe wrote:I pronounce this thread pretty lame. You're missing all the great 16 and 32-bit shmups which had nice music (Radiant Silvergun, Hyper Duel, Metal Black, etc), as well as many arcade and DC shmups (Borderdown, Zero Gunner 2, etc), and recent games like Gradius V, Mushihime-sama, etc.
That doesn't negate the lameness of this thread. Now go get a 1CC in a shmup and post your score, we're all waiting to see.Elixir wrote:Brainless, if you've ever tried to create a poll without failing you'd realize there's a limit on how many options you can have.twe wrote:I pronounce this thread pretty lame. Ikaruga made me jizz my pants the first time I booted her up, either that or soil them. mebbe both.
And it was definitely thanks to the music.
Iky and Gradius V are real, real close...top two right there. I'd have to say Gradius V if I had to choose only one
And of course, Darius Gaiden and Rayforce are flabbergastingly nice.

No "we're" not. You're basically saying that this thread is "lame" because "you" decide it is. Sorry, I don't think so.twe wrote:That doesn't negate the lameness of this thread. I agree with Guwange and I also like Musha Aleste.freddiebamboo wrote:It's a better thread than a few we've had recently IMO
Personally, I like Guwange's soundtrack even though it's not on the list. It has atmosphere and adds to the setting rather than generic electro dross that most games come out with.

Agreed, or at least so close that I can't think of a better one offhand. Quick mention to Guardian Force for amusingly having the Pulp Fiction title tune in it (I forget the actual name of the tune).dessgeega wrote:darius gaiden has the best soundtrack ever.
The poll part of this is pointless really - you can never hope to have enough options to cover even the mix of styles let alone individual games. I believe we had a soundtracks thread only a little while ago.
Elixir - could you learn to deal with peoples opinions without starting with the insults? It's getting extremely tired.

My vote among the choices listed goes to DOJ. Now for some others-
Metal Black's ST gets progressively darker in tone the further you go in the game. It's as good as Border Down in my book- just different.
Darius Gaiden is an absolute classic, especially the Titanic Lance theme which is also used for some other bosses. The first tune "Visionnerz" is memorable especially for "Close your eyes... close your head" and the opera section that kicks in as you're reaching the 2nd zone.
Ketsui's BGM is fittingly described by the Sheep as "floating and spherical" and gets quite catchy in stage 3. Ketsui also has some of the best boss themes, especially "No Remorse" (Doom's).

Kinect? KIN NOT.
No euroshmup love? No respect for Nanostray, Iridion 2, Katakis, or Z-Out?
I think Apidya has the best shmup soundtrack ever. One of my favourite game music CDs. It has such a wide variety of tunes, ranging from classical to Amiga synth to techno that wouldn't sound out of place in Tempest 2000. Also, are there any other shooter soundtracks that have been performed by an orchestra (at the Symphonic Game Music concert in Germany a few years back?

I voted for Ikaruga, but I love the music in Gradius V even more... particularly the reworked Lifeforce boss theme which plays during G5's stage 2 boss rush and the classic Gradius boss music featured during the first half of the stage 6 boss rush. I'm a sucker for nostalgia.
How I wish Gradius V was released on DVD.

Sorry. It's hard not to insult people who make threads like "zOMG credit feed GET!! score+++++millions let's having bragging rights kekekeke 1cc is lame hi" and "I believe PCB does a good job in comparison to MAME."bloodflowers wrote:Elixir - could you learn to deal with peoples opinions without starting with the insults? This reminds me of a story a friend told me about a form he was filing for a job at a school. Everything was nice and fine until he got to the point asking about his ethnicity. There were two lil' boxes one was for "Hispanic" the other one for "Other." I couldn't stop laughing at the stupidity of such a thing (this was a school in NY's Chinatown.) This poll is similar, but it doesn't offer an other Option. Blah.
