...thanks to Erppo, guigui, STG and Icarus for the tips on stage 2B - all really helpful 8)

That video is particularly cool, Icarus - make's it look so easy :)

It's also made me realise what I was doing wrong - I was starting part way up the screen and unconciously backing off slightly (i.e. down on the stick) which was fucking with my focus on the upcoming gaps.

By the way : question about the 2B stage for Icarus : while fighting red Golet and blue Golet comes to bomb you during the chase over the blocks, did you intentionnaly decided to follow blue boy at the first intersection in order to sword him ? Or was that a mistake which might have meant your end if sword was not ready ?

Mistake, lol.
I always have a hypersword just in case, as the chaining route is randomised, and you can end up in a wall if the path goes too close to the edge of the screen (like it did in this clip the first two times, but if you're fast enough you can make it through).

Practicing 2B like crazy!

I'm finding a bit hard to take the right path towards the first series of yellow ships.

Also, on 3A, after killing all yellow ships plus the yellow tank, sometimes I end up with like 128K points, but sometimes 118K. I see that in Ben Shinobi's video he makes 128K in that section, and kills all yellows. In Icarus video, he leaves a yellow behind and makes 118K. I always kill all yellows and score varies. What's triggering this extra 10K? Its not a tricolor combo for sure.

Maybe you're getting a weapon bonus? In 3A this is almost invariably the C shot, hit enemies with both shots 8 times in a row without missing and you get a 10k bonus.

Stage 3 is starting to bore me. I can chain it without even paying attention, but I keep making dumb mistakes and having to restart. :<

There's no penalty for missing one yellow enemy in this Secret Chain, as there's one more than required anyway. The big laser tanks are there for accumulating weapon bonuses with Spread.

This happens when both wall parts come up at around the same time (that is, when you destroy the laser turret things at around the same time), so that they can do a coordinated attack; the one that comes first is invulnerable until the other one arrives.

That's what you're talking about, right?

I'm amazed it even works for you. I've got a fairly good setup that can run Garry's Mod fine but won't run Radiant Silvergun via MAME because of how shonky the current emulation is. Furthermore MAME's never been good with 3D stuff anyway. If you're going to emulate it using that SSF emulator for the Saturn version is definitely the way to go.

Or just stick with the XBLA release, of course. :P

You know, I really hope they release a 4:3 patch for this. I was just playing it on a CRT, through component, and it just kills the Saturn version.

Funny enough, RE4 "HD" looks great on a CRT. Definitely the best it's ever looked. On an HDTV though..... :|

Welp! A week later and I think I can safely say that I've never sucked so badly at a game as I do at Radiant Silvergun... Except any RTS ever made. :P

I suppose eventually I'll work up the nerve to slog through it in story mode. Someday I'll be good enough for you, RSG. I just have to be okay with me first.

Dunno if that's what you mean, but the rightmost part stays invulnerable because it's holding a Silvergun ship (Guy's ship).

The penta fight screws with me so much. Does the bullet spam from the first section move along with penta? Someting feels really off about their pathing.

Any problems with lag using this setup? Should we be looking for a specific PS2 convertor for the 360 or will any of the cheap Hong Kong models on eBay suffice? Are there any models that support rumble that do not require you to also connect a wired 360 controller?
The Keio converter has been designed to be totally lag free. I used the same PS2 to 360 converter I got with my X-Arcade and I've not had any input lag problems (for some reason I just prefer a pad with RSG, probably so I can have my thumb on the fire buttons and finger on the shoulder for the sword). I don't think there are any PS2 to 360 converters that work without the 360 pad attached though. I wasn't aware Keio stopped making the Saturn to PS2 converters, you could always try writing to them and asking if more are going to be manufactured.

Seems X-Gaming are using these PS2 to 360 converters and just re-branding them:-

Sorry to drag this up again, but does the one you use support opening the Guide (usually achieved by pressing the actual Guide button on the 360 controller)?

Pretty sure they just move in a straight line and might not be random. The similar bullet spray it does on the second silvergun attack isn't random at least. The boss should be easy if your vulcan is 23 or over, you can safespot that second attack by going to the bottom middle of the screen.

Really I'd say all the bosses are pretty trivial to beat if you're playing for score and have a cheap strategy (at least on st4), making the game much easier than people seem to think. Until you try playing 5A for score that is :p

If it's any consolation, the majority of my mistakes, some 25 hours in, are still happening in stage 3. It's getting to be a right pain in the arse - practicing and nailing much harder sections in the training mode, and then attempting a scoring run and crashing twice in 3C, the easiest tight spot in the game. Bah!

I did a search for a 100% boss destruction guide, and didn't see one, so I'll ask even though I'm sure it's been answered before:

I keep getting 90% on the wireframe boss, end of chapter 2E, and can't figure out what I'm missing.........any advice?

I think You'll find the boards very own Ben.Shinobi's guide quite helpful. It's natively in french but google translate gives a reasonable translation.

You can find the index to his in depth guide here

Will be using the XBLA version whenever I can use the TV in my living room which is where my XBOX resides and doubes as the DVD player but it's going to be nice be able to play on my LT when I'm unable to use the telly or am away from home.

Apart from that one crash the MAME version was playing nicely. However I have now got the Saturn version running which is a vast improvement. As expected it was a bit of a faff working out how to set up the actual emulator and mount iso's which was all completly new to me.

However setting up the xbox controller in the emulator was childs play compared to my impression of what is required in MAME/MameUi.

I still have my UK Sega Saturn (unmoded) and games boxed up somewhere but now I have the ability to play some the the legendary shooters that were never released in the UK and I mised out on by not modding my Saturn  .

Might just get myself a White USB saturn controller to boot!

By the way, that thing with Penta that Kiken mentioned a few pages back, where Penta jumps a few pixels to the side before it moves to the foreground?
You can see it happen here: http://thestudio-uk.com/namako_ftp/rsg- ... glitch.mp4
I have noticed a few graphical issues so far, including Penta-jumping, occasional texture and background warping, and this weird-looking shadow overlay on the top-third of the screen when you destroy the 3E boss.

Also, since I'm conditioned on the Saturn version, the lack of any kind of slowdown on the XBLA version does throw off my chain timing a lot on certain stages and bosses (4A, 4B, 4C boss mainly, and parts of 5A and Xiga). It's not as jarring as going from the Ibara PCB to the PS2 port for example, but it is noticeably trickier to do certain parts.

Consider this for a moment, guys.

Gears of War 3's DLC skin pack (essentially a bunch of animated GIFs) costs nearly three times as much as Radiant Silvergun now.

Can you get the "Genuine Complete Breakdown" achievement using the Training mode?

Possibly not.

I tested with the 100,000 chain achievement in the training mode and it didn't pop.

I don't think so. The first time I got a max chain was in Training, and it didn't register.

You don't need to get all dogs or 100% destruction in a single playthrough though, in case anyone was wondering.

I never thought in a million years I'd be able to get all the achievements in Radiant Silvergun, but I'm only missing 1cc Arcade mode, which isn't that hard. These could have been a LOT worse....

I don't know what's triggered it, but my Play Stats screen now has an option on it called Bonus Contents. This new screen contains Art Gallery, Sound Gallery and Movie gallery.

Also, for the Genuine Complete Breakdown achievement - is it all bosses in Arcade mode, all bosses in Story mode, or all bosses in both modes?

For me, Bonus Contents unlocked after I got through Story Mode. There may also be a total playtime limit that will cause it to unlock. As for Genuine Complete Breakdown, it keeps a tally of 100% boss kills across both games mode (you only need to 100% a boss once, and it doesn't matter which mode you play in).. although, ultimately, you'll need to play Story Mode as the second stage 5 boss (not found in Arcade Mode) counts toward the achievement (the additional stage 6 bosses do not count).

And I can now confirm that the Arcade Mode ending is missing screens. I just nailed an All Clear in Score Attack Mode and just like before, when "20 years later..." flashes up on the screen, the image just goes black and rolls the credits.

Also, I don't think this version has Hit Box Display (which can be unlocked in the Saturn port).
