The trial is pretty poor. It's not like they didn't learn their lesson from the piss-poor Bangai-O trial either, as they recently patched that so God knows what they were thinking to make the same error again.

Eitherway, troll quality has hit an all time low on this forum.

I didn't realise that only positive appraisals were allowed.

Negative appraisals are just fine, but they need to be backed up with something better than
some 80 point indie game that you wouldn't take a second-glance at
objectively bullshit statements like this.

You haven't put forward anything as lofty as an appraisal. You've just said it's shit. ;)

Hate to budge in with a comment on gameplay...

After a few play sessions I think I'm starting to get the basic weapons down... you really have to know the layout in order to feel like you're not driving a slow underpowered tank. Still have no clue with the combo weapons though - excepting maybe the rear spread. I can't seem to make either of the other two actually useful. Or the sword, for that matter. Any tips?

I like to be concise where possible.

Needless procrastination and superfluous words really are the bane of forums.

Brevity is a virtue, but you've said nothing analytical, mate. That's why the other guys are jumping down your throat. Simply saying the game is crap is fine, but it's hardly a reasoned critique that's being unfairly attacked. ;)

Watch a few of the top replays, Moniker. You'll definitely see the vulcan + homing combo in action. You want to use the sword to soak up pink bullets and then unleash the Hyper Sword attack on boss targets to get your 100% more quickly. It's also good for taking out those long red and grey things (first seen at the start of 3C, IIRC).

The area homing weapon that fans out in a circle around your ship is the only way to uncover the secret merry dog locations. It's also good against some bosses because it's easy to get the weapon bonus (just stay close to the boss) and the explosions it makes stay onscreen and can damage multiple parts of the boss if it's moving.

The homing lazers are good to go through walls and things, and they're also good for getting weapon bonuses on bosses. I use it in most boss fights because you can milk the fights without it getting that tedious.

The sword, aside from eating pink bullets and serving as a smart bomb, is your strongest weapon. Try holding the R trigger to have the sword just lazily trail your ship and park it directly on a large enemy. Watch it explode.

Some boss parts are also weak to it, for example Gallop, Undo and Dan(numbers) making it very useful to use on those.

I just realized that Gallop actually do not like AT ALL that homing plasma, then homing spread combination. Dead in less than a minute, 100%, at least three weapons bonuses, absolutely no risk of dying.

The very top left corner of Gallop's arena is a safe spot, where you can paint him with lock-on shots for an easy 100%. You can see this in the top replays. You might have to destroy his left "shoulder pad" first, though.

I changed the standard layout to one where I can use combo buttons, it's helped enormously.

so, I have:

blue: vulcan
yellow: homing
red: spread shot

for the standard weapons

then I use
blue+yellow = lighting bolt (forget the real name)
yellow+red = area homing
green for the spread back shot
right trigger for the sword

so much easier to remember the combos than to try to juggle 7 buttons at once.

You're the first person I've ever seen who refers to 360 buttons by their colors.

let's see off top of my head blue is x, green is A, yellow is Y and I'll guess red is B?

I think that's right, aye. Wherever the flames come from. I tried this before doing any damage to him and was swiftly punished for it. :P

I always think of them by colors too. Mostly coz Nintendo swaps the positions of A+B & X+Y. Also Sony's X is where 360's A is. Friggin' confusing. I wonder if M$ deliberately did that to screw with N.

You won't be able to tap-fire the combination weapons easily or fire various weapons at the same time by alternating them very fast though.. if you're using a 360 pad you might as well use the seperate buttons when you start finding them useful.

I use A:vulcan X:homing B:homing plasma Y:back shot RB:spread LB:lock-on RT:radiant sword

I'll see if that becomes a problem but at the moment the multi button presses are second nature whereas I kept dying because I couldn't remember which button was which when they were individual; I can very quickly switch between weapons.

I hate the d-pad on the 360 controller, but I was shocked to find I was playing better with the pad than with my (reasonably good) arcade stick; I'm finding it easier to nudge in one direction or another.

is there a third party 360 controller with a great d-pad? how are those street fighter IV pads?

also, instead of changing patterns, I wish the "very easy" mode was the game running at 6/8th speed with the ship at 8/8th speed, ha.

I hate the spinning cannon tank boss, I can't figure out how to not die over and over again if I don't nail getting him to point in the other direction when he starts tracking my location in his final attack. And I can't figure out how to consistently do that first step.

The SFIV Fightpad is ace; it's what I'm using to play this. Its d-pad is a lot thicker than the Saturn's, but it manages to feel just as responsive for the most part.

Make him be at low health before you destroy all the parts? Pretty much never die on him now but I might miss one part if I'm not paying attention since lock-on can miss sometimes.

Huh? How do you guys even die on that boss, it's by far the easiest the game has to offer. Just hide behind the pillars, the turret rotation as well as the screen rotation are 100% predictable, so just think ahead.

If you need a nice controller, the Keio Saturn to PS2 converter works nicely with the PS2 to 360 converter.

Might you know anywhere you can pick up said converter? Been looking for one for a little while but the maker stopped producing them.

Even TrouserPlank is better than a certain troll that I won't even bother naming.

But there's almost nothing wrong with the game.

Poor. Really poor. The rule with 360 dpads is the newer your (official) pad the better the dpad, although even the later ones are still far from perfect.

Also, I found another bug: I clocked up 51 hours on the timer (nothing extra appeared) yet when I selected "Return To Game Library" and reloaded the game, the clock was saying 45 hours.

Surprised to hear you say this. I couldn't gell with it at all. It's too big and the dpad is way too floaty. The only saving grace is that it has 6 face buttons.

Any problems with lag using this setup? Should we be looking for a specific PS2 convertor for the 360 or will any of the cheap Hong Kong models on eBay suffice? Are there any models that support rumble that do not require you to also connect a wired 360 controller?
