Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
I have never played this before and i am really enjoying it. The online co-op is fun. Over a thousand people on the online leaderboards so far. I could not be any happier

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
The stage and boss they picked for the demo is one of my favorites in the game, actually.
I tried Ikaruga mode, briefly. I'm happy with vanilla Radiant Silvergun, mostly because I don't want to have to unlearn years of scoring a certain way.
I've only noticed frame drop either at the start of a level or at the very end, after a boss explosion. It's a little jarring, but so far hasn't affected gameplay.

Well they did just recently put out a patch that fixed many of the problems I and possibly others had with Bangai-O Missile Fury.evil_ash_xero wrote:I just wonder how we could annoy Treasure to make a patch. They don't seem to chat with their fan base much.
Get the word out there and given enough time I'm sure somebody will look into it.

It's a port of an ARCADE GAME. It makes perfect sense to want to play in an ARCADE CABINET. Is that rocket science?defected78 wrote:The generation that we live in is HD only and I dont see why people are putting games consoles into cabinets. They dont belong in them.
You certainly didnt get HD display 4:3 cabinets 15 years ago.
If a game is converted to be played in this generation than it will be to run in HD and not in 4:3. Especially if it isnt outputting in the same resolution that was probaly something like 240.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
I thought ports were designed for televisions, as they are ported for a home environment. Maybe Treasure's budget did not have room for 4:3. Then again, I don't know how much the 4:3 demographic has actually shrunk. They may not have considered it worth the effort.burgerkingdiamond wrote:It's a port of an ARCADE GAME. Why is it called the Vic Viper/Warp Rattler? Because the Options trail behind it in a serpent-like fashion, and the iconic front fins are designed to invoke the image of a snake's fangs.

Akai Katana arcade mode is just fine on my 4:3 NANAO MS-9. But I won't be buying Radiant Silvergun with no 4:3 support. It's ridiculous, jeez.chempop wrote:I finally scored a 16:9 HD-CRT recently so I can't join in on the 4:3 moaning and groaning... However, I was definitely one of the people freaking out about:
Deathsmiles 2X (arcade mode)
Guwange (pre-patch)
Akai Katana (arcade mode)

I think most of us had the boss's life meter completely off-screen in AK-arcade mode. You can't just adjust some pots in the NANAO to crop the wallpaper and zoom the 4:3 section of Silvergun to fit the screen?Akai Katana arcade mode is just fine on my 4:3 NANAO MS-9. It's a port of an arcade game to a modern, HD console. It makes perfect sense to focus resources on the 16:9 aspect of development.
(just highlighting the porous logic)
I understand you 4:3 people are mad, but really, the amount of whining in this forum blows my mind sometimes.
Really, are SHMUPS the only area of your life where modern technology is destroying the way you "used to do things"?
Tech is evolving. You don't have to like it, but ... surrounding yourselves with a group of people as stubborn as you, doesn't mean you're any less asinine in the grand scheme of things
(Sorry, now I'm venting)

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
But it was originally 4:3. What extra effort does it take to include a proper 4:3 mode? Zero.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
We really need a separate 4:3 bitching thread! It ruins almost every topic now adays, and yeah, I'm guilty too.
I'm stoked to be getting an update of one of my all time favorites! Happy that so many people will finally get a chance to play it.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
I love this conversion, I especially like having the soundtrack remastered into 5.1 Dolby Digital, Radiant Silvergun has one of my favourite soundtracks ever.
On a side note, you can all turn your noses up at me but I lack the dedication to stick to one game for long, so that means credit feeding is the only way I see the end of shooters like RSG. It looks like in story mode you can't credit feed since you only get one credit. I'll just have to practise I guess, and keep building up those weapons
Also, do people really find this harder than Ikaruga? After level 1 of Ikaruga I can't do anything but play for survival, I find the pace far to frantic to try and chain, and I only scraped through Ikaruga on my last credit on the Xbox 360 version.

I agree that it's been brought up enough in the past. but I feel the need to respond to someone saying that it doesn't matter that 4:3 isn't there.chempop wrote:We really need a separate 4:3 bitching thread! It ruins almost every topic now adays, and yeah, I'm guilty too.

Wow, dang.
I've have the Saturn version since the day it was released, so there's no pressure for me to purchase a broken port. If it gets patched I'll consider it.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
I'd say it's much easier to play Ikaruga for survival than this, though, because you're essentially copping out of most attacks by changing colour. They both require diligent practice and thorough memorisation to play well, but RSG demands this even if you're just arsing around. It was inspired by Image Fight, and it shows!BuckoA51 wrote:

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
I've come to this thread to ask about the 4:3 issue and I've found that I'm not the only one that is really pissed about this. I use my XBOX 360 in a 4:3 CRT TVset, and I will not buy this game until they release a patch to fix this. Period.
Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
Then again, I'd argue the chains in RSG are easier(at least simpler visually) than Ikarugas because you get the most points from killing the same color over and over which is easy to concentrate on.Klatrymadon wrote:I'd say it's much easier to play Ikaruga for survival than this, though, because you're essentially copping out of most attacks by changing colour. For me playing ikaruga without playing for score feels boring; the bosses are crappy(apart from the last one) and the enemy patterns are based on the scoring system. I can't use the polarity system by reflex though which makes it harder for me to get into. It's a pleasant surprise liking RSG after never liking Ikaruga.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
Same here, aye. It's a much more compelling game played casually or seriously...
Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
To all the 4:3 whiners: You're doing Treasure's excellent porting job a disservice by not playing this on an HD display. Low-res 1 mode looks amaaaazing on my huge LCD.
Your whining was definitely justified with Guwange, though. Muddy 2D graphics are ill-suited to an HDTV.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
what about a relatively hi-res 4:3 or 5:4 display? I use 1280x1024.. that's just wasted resolution with the letterboxing.Estebang wrote:To all the 4:3 whiners: You're doing Treasure's excellent porting job a disservice by not playing this on an HD display. then again you're probably trolling :p

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
Alright, it seems that the jacked-up weapon leveling only occurs in Score Attack mode (and the game places scores earned in Score Attack Mode on the same local highscore screen as playing in standard mode). I also find it somewhat annoying that you can't record replays in standard mode (they're for score attack only).
Also, the weird swapped enemy placement I was talking about in 4C is random. Sometimes it's 'correct', other times, it isn't. I've never seen this occur in the Saturn version.
Quick edit... on my last playthrough I encountered a graphical glitch during the battle with Penta. As the ship was in the background deciding which side of the screen to begin its attack on, it suddenly teleported about 3 inches across the screen before moving up onto the active plane.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
It's optimized for HDTVs because Treasure realized that's what everyone in 2011 plays their 360s on, save for a few cranky holdovers. I love the look of vintage CRT monitors as much as the next guy, but they're only meant for similarly vintage gaming hardware (and the handful of modern Cave PCBs).
Are you saying that Low-res 1 mode on an HDTV does NOT look really good?
EDIT: Random enemy placements? Must be a porting glitch, but at least it's not one that meaningfully affects scoring (I think.)

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
I spent about three hours with this last night. I like the enhancements but they definitely need to fix the 4:3 issue. It's stil playable, but it is annoying.
Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
I noticed this too whilst watching a replay. Not sure if it does it every time though.Kiken wrote:Quick edit... on my last playthrough I encountered a graphical glitch during the battle with Penta. Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
That's a dumb thing to say. Wanting 4:3 support for a 4:3 game is a no brainer and is easy to implement. I'll admit it must be boring for everyone who is playing on a 16:9 LCD tv scroll past the upset, but don't make an idiot of yourself by calling us cranky holdovers.Estebang wrote:It's optimized for HDTVs because Treasure realized that's what everyone in 2011 plays their 360s on, save for a few cranky holdovers.
Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
I wasn't saying that they absolutely shouldn't have included 4:3 support--I can't deny it would be a better product if they did. I am simply of the opinion that this version of the game and the hardware it's running on were meant to be viewed on an HDTV, and will inherently look superior on one.
Not saying I'm not a "cranky holdover" either--I still own and regularly use a 1989 Model 1 Genesis. Sadly, Treasure probably didn't even consider that there might be people with 360s hooked up to cabs, whether they're wrongheaded or not.
