Hey hey, you got one Jase! (Karura-Ou that is.)

Come on, spill it. I bet that cost several thousand Yen eh? Especially in Akiba. Any chance of a picture thread of your trip?

Isn't Karura-Ou just Skyblazer? Why so expensive?

It was just under 4000 Yen, I got it from Mandarake store in Nakano Broadway. I couldn't find it in either Akihabara or Den Den town and was proper chuffed to finally track one down the day before coming home.

I had a really amazing time, feeling the post holiday blues tho. I'm planning on doing a full write up on the holiday when I get round to it.

It's a great game, and JP versions of great games usually cost more I guess.

But then...

Is actually really reasonable, you did well. I see YHJ auctions beat this price regularly.

Really? Must be a new tendency, I guess, cause most of the Jap SFC games I own are really only because it was much cheaper to find them boxed in Jap versions.
This especially goes for the Mega Man games, and of course all the RPGs, but those don't really count as they're only playable when you understand Japanese.

Anyway, Skyblazer is definitely a great game, one of those cheap SNES gems everyone should get.

Yeah, it's really weird how that occurs. The opposite seems to be true for PS1 games. Intelligent Cube will probably run you $50+ for a US copy. JP? Probably less than 1,000jpy. Same for Bust a Groove (US title) and some others.

Some games just had lower print runs in certain regions. But you can't say that Japanese games are always more expensive. Look at some TurboGrafx-16 games. Dynastic Hero US is around $500, JPN can be had for $15. It's all a question of supply and demand.

I suppose living in a predominantly PAL environment (where everything except Terranigma, Symphony of the Night and Panzer Saga is worthless) I tend to see more value in Japanese releases.

I know there are a few US NES titles growing in value, but I was still under the impression (minus RPG's) that JP stuff still held its value best (generally speaking.)

Alundra and Suikoden II PAL seem to be rare/expensive. Also, Alien Soldier and Gimmick! without the sound chip.

Ah yes, they are reasonably dear.

And Whirlo too!
Alien Soldier and Gimmick!
Didn't know these were worth much PAL?

Just check some PAL SNES prices, they have exploded in the last few years.

Castlevania Vampire's Kiss goes for about €250 (JPN = €40)
Final Fight 3 is about €350
Wild Guns about €200-250
Whirlo about €250 (JPN = €10 max)

The other thing is, it's way harder to find PAL SNES games in great condition.

PAL Gimmick is ridiculously expensive, I've seen mint copies sell for 600 euro+ at swedish NES forums.

Wow, you live and learn. Wild Guns PAL is worth more than the JP one!
PAL isn't my scene (50hz, bleh!) so I'm definitely not up to date. And yes, Xandra's Big Adventure (Whirlo) is about £10 and you should buy that version because it's perfectly playable and has much nicer packaging and there's no sprite modification. :)

Alien Soldier, really? What's a PAL copy going for lately?
Got a completely unused (though unsealed) copy some years back for about £10. It was cheap then, I imagine even more so now?

This little beauty just arrived in the mail. I'm a huge fan of Akira Yamaoka's work so it's really cool to have this autograph.

The TTI version of Dynastic Hero was selling for a mere $19.99 USD brand new back in 1994 at the USA based Toys-R-Us stores. That's an insane price for such a pristine copy of the USA region Super CD-Rom2 DH nowdays.

The Caanoo is not really that good. Yes, it's a powerful machine, a true pocket emulation powerhouse, but it has a number of stupid design flaws. I could forgive most of them, but that goddamned analog stick... one hour playing and my wrist hurts now!

I have it too.
For some emulators it's very good, snes, genesis, genesis cd (!), pcengine, but i agree it is far from perfection. I have Dingoo too and i prefer it for some things (neogeo, cps1 cps2 emulation)

Just got a 2nd copy of Arkanoid Returns (for head-to-head competitions; wife likes the Arkanoid). A couple CPS2 carts as well (Pro Gear, X-Men v Streetfighter, Marvel Superheroes, Marvel v Capcom, SFZero 2 and SFAlpha).

I actually used to own it, but sold it due to its crappiness. However, I somehow felt the urge to play it again. Probably since I'm a big Darius fan, and the game does have lots of fish...

Hey at least you got Gradius II and Macross 2036 to make up for it. Pick up Download's sequel if you don't already have it.
