Zoom modes aren't all that common on 4:3 CRTs, unfortunately. The only 4:3 TV I've ever encountered that had zoom modes was an LCD, and it mainly zoomed out (to letterbox widescreen content) rather than in.bcass wrote:Also, a lot of CRTs have a Zoom mode don't they? Mine does, allowing you to get full screen even when the aspect ratio is forced (as this appears to be).

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
Well, for those with arcade monitors, it's not hard to alter the vertical hold is it.
Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
Arcade monitors such as the Nanao MS9 have potentiometers to alter the horizontal/vertical position and picture size.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
I think all CRT TVs and monitors have potentiometers to adjust at least vertical and horizontal hold. It's just that most TVs only have them on the inside of the casing.
Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
I hate when devs cant get in proper aspect ratios this does not have anything to with CRT or LCD
There are plenty of LCD monitors that run natively 4:3,5:4 being manufactured.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
Hahaha, I thought I was the only one crazy enough to do this!I even keep a pile of CRTs in my basement so I never have to worry about not having access to one.
I finally scored a 16:9 HD-CRT recently so I can't join in on the 4:3 moaning and groaning... However, I was definitely one of the people freaking out about:
Deathsmiles 2X (arcade mode)
Guwange (pre-patch)
Akai Katana (arcade mode)
If I had known then, what I know now about adjusting my TV's settings via service menu, it wouldn't have been a big deal at all since the vertical and horizontal size and position can be set according to one's needs.
Hmmm, not sure but are the HUD moved to outside of the play-field and only viewable in the wall-paper area? That would probably prevent you from wanting to to zoom in to make the 4:3 area fullscreens...

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
You can move any component of the hud to where ever you want in the options, or, you can just select to have the old hub.
It's nice that they kept the initials entry screen, but it would have been nicer if it remembered the last entry so you didn't have to manually enter it after every game.
Also, I notice that the real-time time counter is present from the Saturn version. This indicates to me that the time-unlock stuff from that version will be present and correct here.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
If you put your xbox into 16:9 mode and have it hooked up to a 4:3 crt via scart the picture will be stretched tall getting rid of the black borders at the top and bottom. This didn't work in the Cave ports for some reason.
However, in the screen options you can't alter the height and width (X,Y axis) of the playing field independently, you can only zoom so the game keeps it's original 4:3.
So on a 4:3 crt (outside of entering service mode) you either have to put up with forced 16:9 or play it stretched tall...
EDIT:

I didn't bother adjusting the HUD.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
I have a TV tube in my candy cab (tated) with my 360 hooked up through component. I ran the component cables to a splitter with one set to the CRT and the other set leaving the cab and going to my flatscreen tv. So I can play horis on the TV with a seperate stick and verts on the cab without having to move the 360 around. This works the best for me since my cab has no rotation mech (i.e. it's a major ordeal to re-orient the tube). And even if it was easy to rotate it wouldn't be worth it when the game in question has forced 16:9 since I can't even do a work around because it's not an arcade CRT with all of the same adjustments (for some reason in the service mode I can stretch vertically, but not horizontally).
Ughhh. I can't believe how much time/energy I spend just trying to get a good setup to play videogames... It's ridiculous.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
So am I the only one that noticed that the weapon leveling values have been lowered slightly (as in, you level up faster in the XBLA version)? It seems that the 10000 bonuses for firing x number of shots per weapon have had their values dropped. Also, I noticed a mirrored enemy pattern near the beginning of 4C (after the long missile portion, there are a group of blue and red enemies that fire the slow 5 radial fire-ball shots.. in the Saturn rev, blue enemies appear on the left and red enemies appear in the middle and right.... in the XBLA version, this is reversed). Another thing; I didn't notice a WAIT option in the XBLA version, resulting in a total lack of slowdown (even when using the reticle lock laser, there's no induced slowdown).
I only put in two quick credits before work this morning... the above is what I noticed on my first play. I'll spend more time with the game this evening.
Also, running the game through VGA (set to my TV's native resolution: 1360x768) on my 26 inch HD TV (it's a Vizio) results in lagless input.

I don't mind about that. I have the Saturn version...and this game is already as hard as a rock.

ha dude I just noticed your STGT banner. A glass of scotch and a joystic. I don't know why I find that so funny. Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
I was immediately convinced that Ikaruga chaining is the definitive way to play RSG.
You don't need to swear an oath of duty to the killing of red enemies, and it allows for a lot more improvisation.
I'm sure this has been discussed to death in the past decade, but are the plasma/lockon/tail shot useful at all beyond some very specific situations?

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
Yeah, plasma and homing spread can hit enemies from behind obstacles (more useful than it seems at first), and back wide is useful if you don't confine yourself to the bottom half of the screen; for instance, it's by far the best weapon for any boss that can get behind you.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
Has anyone figured out how to 100% the first boss of the game in 3A? The thing timeouts way too quickly. So instead I end up Hyper Sword for 50% or 60 % rate.
Also, what other scoring stuff can be done outside of chaining and destroying as many boss parts as possible? There's supposed to be some form of boss milking, but how does that work? Also, anything hidden I should be looking for?

Porting team, why you fuck up something so simple. We waited 13 years for an affordable overseas release and you flip everyone with a non-widescreen TV off.
I thought we learned something from Guwange 360. (Well I know I did: I downloaded the trial of RSG instead of buying it just yet.)

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
There are hidden bonuses, aye. Some are worth a lot more than others. You'll find them as you sweep the screen wth your lock-on reticle.
As for the first boss, I usually Hyper Sword him right off the bat, to get rid of the trickier targets to his rear, and then take out the left and right sides before finishing off the core. This should give you 100% every time.

Maybe enough whining could get them to release a patch.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
I'm gonna go ahead and take the plunge and try to put 50 hours into this(you don't have to be actually PLAYING this, to add up time, thank the gods).
How long should I leave my 360 on, at a time? And how long should I let it cool off?

Really, I wouldn't have minded if a few areas were subtly changed or the game's graphics went all superdeformed. Aspect ratios being all funny is something I've come to really dislike.
Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
I really hope this gets a patch sometime soon to work with 4:3... Out of interest, how long did it take for Guwange to get addressed?

Mine's a Jasper too and I'll be leaving it on continuously for 50 hours starting from when I first turned it on this morning at 10am (GMT).evil_ash_xero wrote:I'm gonna go ahead and take the plunge and try to put 50 hours into this(you don't have to be actually PLAYING this, to add up time, thank the gods).

Is there an achievement for playing 50 hours, or is that when extra options unlock?evil_ash_xero wrote:I'm gonna go ahead and take the plunge and try to put 50 hours into this(you don't have to be actually PLAYING this, to add up time, thank the gods).
Leaving it on for a weekend is safer than it sounds actually, especially if the system isn't working too hard. I've done several 60+ hour usage marathons in convention game rooms with a launch model.

I don't expect any problems. I've left it on much longer than that in the past when downloading Japanese Games on Demand titles via a VPN.
Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
Watched the top replay for arcade mode.. got to admit, they did a good job with the hi-res update. Lots of good projectile and enemy sprites + large background textures.. the game actually looks pretty good apart from a few bits :p
Same with the new HUD showing weapon levels and chain status.
Also, one of my replays got glitched somehow, no idea how.. hoping this won't be common. Liking the game more than I expected so far. The weapons and sword feel fun to use and the chaining isn't as strict as I was afraid it would be.
