So, apparently the rumours are true. Nintendo UK also confirmed it already.

It seems like a new 3DS is coming soon too.

Good job, Nintendo. You are the new Sega, can't wait for the Sega CD add-on.

Looks incredibly lopsided. That will not be fun to hold.

why'd you even need a second stick on a handheld...

Don't worry about it. You can travel from the Milky Way to Andromeda and back 1500 times before the sun explodes.

The same reason you`d need a second stick on a gamepad.

Is there any hard info to support this? Granted, Nintendo certainly has a tendency to revise its handhelds to kingdom come, but I haven't seen anything concrete beyond the existence of the peripheral.

No hard info, but the source for the original second-stick rumor (as absurd as it was) also suggested a reworked design was under development.

I wouldn't be surprised if an 3DS LL or 3DS XL variant was released.

My initial reaction: Image

And then I realized Nintendo probably paid off Capcom to release Monster Hunter on the 3DS. Why would Capcom release Monster Hunter on a Nintendo platform after what happened with Tri, and the fact that everyone wants the series on PSP or PS3? It doesn't make sense.

They might as well have mounted the extra nub to a fucking boulder that you plug your 3DS into.

We’re to understand that the same source which gave us all information on the Wii U two months before it was officially unveiled by Nintendo has dropped another bit of potential release information: a $10 right analog stick attachment. How this little bugger would actually attach to your existing device or how on earth you’d be able to keep it attached while you’re having awesome joystick fun is not yet known.

With this second stick addition comes another rumor that a whole new gaming system will be released in the same or a similar form-factor that the 3DS has but this time with the right analog stick attached by default and either a lowered or completely axed 3D capability on both displays. Aka a 2DS, if you will.
Note this article is from the 23rd August. So yeah, it's a rumour that appeard a few weeks ago and everybody was laughing, but after the famitsu leak, the whole situation looks a little different. Well, we will know more after the 13th.

Isn't the 3DS having problems catching on, already?

I don't think I have ever played any game on console or PC that required using a second analogue stick.

I don't need it and won't buy it, but surely it will be useful to somebody so I will withhold any further comment...

it's nice to know that the legacy of wacky add ons to handhelds is not over.

Just about every console game with a first/third-person view uses the right analogue stick either for camera controls or aiming, or something else entirely. Been like this for a decade.
