play-asia GWG price drop

Post by theevilfunkster »

Play-asia has just dropped the price of Giga Wing Generations by $20. So, is it sort of worth getting now or what?

Shikigami No Shiro II (Taito Best) has also had a price cut.

I sew GWG selling at $23.23 in a local game store some days ago, I thought that was low. Wow, its price is real low now.

Kind of think about getting one now. :? A friend of mine once lend a bootleg copy to me, telling me to make a copy for myself and then return it to him. :o After playing a few games on my PS2, I decided *NOT* to waste a CD-R on this game. IT WAS THAT BAD!!!

Well the decision is up to you. If you like "Giga Wing" very much it might still worth buying.

Now the Japanese version is cheaper than the Korean, if only by $5. I bought the Korean one a couple months back to save a few dollars and am perfectly happy with it.

The game display is a bit unclear for some reason. This can be very annoying to some people. Outside of that, I really enjoy playing GWG. If you can get it that cheaply I would suggest buying it.

Gigawing Generations is a hell of a lot of fun.

It is quite ugly, though.

The price for the game on eBay went down recently too, there are several 40$-or-so copies on there...

I just don't like playing verts in yoko. That in itself makes me not purchase this game, no matter what the cost of it is.

I'll simply never play it. It will just sit on a shelf.

I never understood when people won't buy a game for $60 because they heard it's crap, but for $40 they might/are interested. Obviously if you don't like it, you feel less ripped off, but if it sucks it sucks (not saying GWG does) so does $20 really make that much of a difference?

In my case, at least, I generally won't buy a game if I've heard it's absolutely awful, but if I've heard that a game has certain deficiencies but also does some things right I might be persuaded to get ahold of it at a lower price...for instance, I tried Psyvariar 2 out for the first time a while back, but didn't like it enough to spend 60-70 bucks on the DC version. However, when I saw a brand new copy of the PS2 version up for 20 bucks, I went for it, and feel I got my money's worth. Everyone's value of a game is a bit different...

More or less what Bulletmagnet said. Rob and Rando seem to know what they're talking about and like the game, so I'm already interested in it...more willing to take the risk though at a lower price. If you hate the game then you're out a smaller amount of money.

I'm not really concerned about graphics and the graphical issues of this port can be easily overcomed with a few hours of play (the game runs at 30 FPS, but without slowdown at all: you won't notice this anymore after a few plays). For the rest, the gameplay is very fast and well designed, level design is brilliant, and overall the gaming experience is very good. If, on the other hand, you only mind about the graphics, you could be pretty disappointed. In case, i reviewed the game in my journal (link in the sig, right now i can't reach the site.

EDIT: here's the review
"The only desire the Culture could not satisfy from within itself was one common to both the descendants of its original human stock and the machines [...]: the urge not to feel useless."

I.M. Banks, "Consider Phlebas" (1988: 43).
