Going to be enjoying some super crispy pixels this weekend
NICE. I didn't know you could get S-video out of a Dreamcast without a VGA box. Now I need to get one of those.

AKRATEN, that's got to be one of the nicest setups I've seen, Bravo!

CulDad, congrats on the Astro and Blast, that's basically my dream team of cabs that someday I hope I can obtain. Those are some lucky kids!

Got myself a Datel "Arcade Pro" stick that I got around to modding this weekend, with sanwa buttons and a Seimitsu LS-40 stick (and removed that horrible Fake Ryu artwork)

It plays like a dream, and I felt like my shmup skills improved immediately, attempting a go at Futari Original, beating my previous high score in the very first attempt (though I never really digged Original, almost only played Maniac).
I love the casing too - the Datel stick might be total crap, but it's amazing for modding, it has a perfect size and a really nice heavy metal plate in the bottom, and the PCB is tiny, allowing me to shove in a bunch of other controller PCBs in the future.

I'm not sure I'll ever be able to play shooters with the Sanwa sticks in my cabinet again...

Been buying doujin games lately and I managed to grab something really special:

Image

Rockmen R: Dr. Wily's Counterattack. A doujin game too close for comfort for Capcom so they slapped the developers with a C&D. Well, to be fair, at least some of the sprites are ripped so it wasn't uncalled for. In any case, they managed to get an unknown amount of copies out there before Capcom forced them to stop selling it.

And as icing on the cake, I also managed to get my hands on the elusive 1.02 and 1.03 patches for the game. Good times.

Well, all the copies out there are the used ones from the people who managed to grab theirs before Capcom stepped in. After that no reputable store could sell any copies of the game, I'm assuming. I don't know how many copies got out into the wild and I have no idea what happened to the unsold ones. Would be interesting to know more about this, maybe there's some site that talks more about it? But yeah, it can be a bit hard to find. Japanese auction sites and such get it every once in a while. It wasn't all that expensive though, so I guess there's a good amount of copies moving around and/or there just isn't that much interest for it.

I can't really say about originality since I haven't played all the Mega Man games (and what I have, I barely recall - it's been a while), but I think this is fun stuff. You can watch a full playthrough of it on Youtube if you want to check out the finer details.

Also, I may have been way wrong about the ripped sprites thing. But since the game uses Capcom's IP that's more than enough of a reason for them to take action, especially since this was being sold instead of just being a freeware title.

Being a Mega Man fanatic, I feel ashamed of myself for not hearing of this before. It's actually a pretty cool game in spite of some control issues.
