About time. Criminal really that it wasn't part of this years (lacklustre) Summer of Arcade promotion.
Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
I guess they don't want ports in that lineup. Third strike and this would've fit well otherwise IMObcass wrote:About time. Criminal really that it wasn't part of this years (lacklustre) Summer of Arcade promotion.
Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
The annoying thing is that they've probably been sitting on it for 6 months now.

Splendid! I'm so excited I'm almost tempted to buy the extraneous avatar bollocks, too.

Major Nelson was lying, Guardian Heroes will not be out tomorrow.
Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
I read today on a portuguese website that Treasure revealed the release of Radiant Silvergun (XBLA) on September 14. The price: 1200 Microsoft points.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
1200 space bucks is a bit steeper than I was expecting (400 more than Bangai-O & Guardian Heroes), but it's chump change compared to the $150 the Saturn version still commands. I'd certainly pay $60 for it.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
There's the slimmer & meaner ST-V cartridge version of RSG running on the Sega Titan ST-V arcade platform with it's optional stereo output to consider as well. Sounds quite dramatic & epic if played in mono sound output via a candy cab's twin speaker setup through the 56-pin Jamma interface.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
The 1200 MS pricing has been known for some time now. Personally I think the costing's a bit bullshit but this really isn't any surprise considering this is predominantly string-pulling by Microsoft etc etc. I think it'd be worth the price nonetheless considering the other factors behind it already mentioned here.
Stupid question here though (so sue me):
I don't think I've ever seen fancy promotion efforts for any shmup before like the impression I get of this "Summer of Arcade" thing.
Maybe I joined the Xbox 360 scene late or it's my placement in the world, but what I'm failing to understand is why were there expectations for Radiant Silvergun being promoted this way? Other XBLA titles like Guwange got nothing besides online promotion and Deathsmiles PAL / DDP:R PAL (as of time of writing anyway) even got so much as a fluttering of an eye by conventional stores. Hell, their own staff don't even know what they're selling half the time. I guess what I'm asking is: what's different with this game that makes it viable for promotion in such a way?

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
First, as has been mentioned dozens of times now, Microsoft specifically asked Treasure to undertake this port. Second, Microsoft themselves are publishing it. Microsoft would never have done this unless they thought they could make money out of it. Third, Ikaruga did pretty good numbers on XBLA which indicates that RSG could perform similarly. The fact that RSG has such legendary status (even amongst non-shmuppers) is also a defining factor I would imagine.BPzeBanshee wrote:Maybe I joined the Xbox 360 scene late or it's my placement in the world, but what I'm failing to understand is why were there expectations for Radiant Silvergun being promoted this way? Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
They've had ports the other years. But they might have tightened their rules. I heard Summer of Arcade games have to at least be time exclusive to Live.Zaarock wrote:I guess they don't want ports in that lineup. Third strike and this would've fit well otherwise IMO
Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
Still, I expect RSG to be a bit of an underdog on Live. It's not an avatar game, it's a game for geeks.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
I thought I had a mistaken memory when I was thinking that Microsoft had its tendrils all in and through this release, guess that isn't the case. Definitely explains the price tag too.bcass wrote:First, as has been mentioned dozens of times now, Microsoft specifically asked Treasure to undertake this port. I guess my localisation must have been a contributor to my ignorance as well - for all it's "legendary status" I never heard of Radiant Silvergun or Ikaruga until I came to this forum and we had a bunch of hate/love threads pop up about them. Coming on the 360 this way I imagine it will become a bit more popular at least.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
Do you think it will have the extras of the Saturn version? I'm mainly interested in controlling the ship speed, that you could unlock, upon 50 hours of the system being on. I REALLY hate the speed of the ship.
Well, if it does, i'll buy it. If not, I got the Saturn hooked up, and RSG ready to go.
One thing that gives me hope, is that in the "Quick Look" video, you can see the little timer, for a second, while he is changing menus. That was for opening up the extras in the old one, so maybe it does the same thing here.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
Nice video. Actually, seeing Radiant Silvergun played not using the chaining system reminds me of "euroshmup" games where your weapon is not powerful enough to destroy the ennemies ! A lot of time I pitied the guy playing : if only he knew that, by jsut concentrating only on the reds, game would be a lot easier...

Strange that the ikaruga mode isn't even grayed out on the mode menu. I doubt they would hide a boss rush mode if there was one.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
The ST-V version is obviously the most expensive of the bunch even though it has a lot less contents than the other versions.
Even so, I'd love to have Radiant Silvergun without loading times in my arcade cab, so hopefully the ST-V cart will continue to drop in price once the XBLA release is out - both Saturn and ST-V versions already dropped drastically since the announcement. It was never that rare a game, just very sought after, and I think the majority of people who bought it did so to play the game properly rather than to just own some sort of holy grail for Saturn Collectors that they'd never play.

Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
Apart from the initial load time (which is no greater than the time it takes to boot most PCBs) the between stage loading is a total non-issue on the Saturn version.
Re: Radiant Silvergun help--XBLA release
I didn't mean to say it's a real issue, I just like my games in "hardware" format.
