I've seen it talked about twice here on the forums, both times
mentioning vesa mounted stands _should_ all be modable for ccw pivot.
I've included two pics of the stand for my dell 2209wa, one screen thats been recommended for shmupping. The pics show the back with a big bolt that stops the screen rotated 90cw and two smaller bolts on the front holding the screen plate. All three making it very hard to mod. Is there any way at all I can get this to rotate the way I want it?
Otherwise - Can anyone recommend a replacement stand for the 2209wa that
rotates ccw?
All you do is take off the screen. Rotate the mechanism CW as far as it will go, then put the screen on horizontal again. Now it rotates the other way.
I have used many monitors and have done that for all of them. I've never seen a CCW stand before. This is about the 5th time I've mentioned this method to people. Do stands actually exist where you can't do this trick?

That sounds to easy to be true in my case. The pics below are of the screen with stand removed and of stand turned all the way cw. Can I really get these two to fit again?
For the rotate + mount sideways trick the mount has to be a more standard type - Dell's interlock-style mounts won't do it (the best you can hope for is to put the monitor in upside-down, but I doubt it would work). Your monitor probably has VESA-standard mounting holes though (I see four screws on your second pic but not sure if those are in the right location to confirm to the standard), which can be used with a different mount. You could also try disassembling the mount arm to see if you can change the rotation behavior on that end.
Trust you to have a propreitory stand that only goes one way. That is quite a feat. I've had quite a few go through my hands and never had this problem.

I use one of those 3rd-party optional 3M monitor stands from Staples (priced at $49.99 USD) and did the pivot trick to allow such a 24" widescreen 16:10 LCD-based PC monitor to tate properly. Even with the optional height adjustment feature, it barely allows the monitor to tate with just a mere 1.75" to spare from the ground surface to the outside frame of the monitor itself. Works like a charm nevertheless.
Found the 3M/Staples stand here in Sweden under a different name - Ergotron Neo-Flex. I can only compare from pictures of the Staples one, but they look visually identical except for the colour of the foot. The one I bought was however priced at about €68 + shipping. That came out quite expensive for a cheap looking table stand, but it works!
You didn't have to buy a new stand for the LCD.
I have a 2209WA and I modded mine to rotate the other way.
All you need to do is unscrew the vesa plate, rotate it the way you want,
and screw it back in. If you note, the vesa plate screws are in a square arrangement.
