This looks and plays really nice but I find the whole red/blue crystal mechanic a bit Micky Mouse. Or is that deliberate to match the low-res graphics?
And what actually determines how your weapons change when you're anchoring/bombing a large enemy?

And I fucking loathed the swing in THE so this gets my vote just for making anchoring acceptable again :D

I really like the music. I don't know how I feel about the graphics. They're pretty ugly, buy they are charming in a way..

I think it's a little strange to mention this in the same sentence as Crimzon Clover though.

Agreed - the anchor is really satisfying, unlike Trigger Heart's stupid rotating thing. The special weapon is determined by which type of enemy you lock onto, or in the case of a boss, which part you lock.

i'm sorry to dig up the topics again, did anyone have the idea how scoring in this game works? ,i'm using bomb mode in this replay and i'm not sure if i'm doing it right or not

I'm really didggin' the low-res style and the music is awesome! 8)
Kinda had a bit of a laugh at the fact that the player aircraft looks akin to an Arwing from Starfox.....was almost waiting for someone to pop up and say "Use bombs WISELY!" :lol:

the anchor feature is niffty btw.

I like the usage of colors and how they compliment each other...from an artist's perspective. It's very easy to distinguish between the background scenery and the foreground game sprites -- very easy on the eyes indeed. I like how the end-stage boss aestethics (has that Psyvariar Medium Unit/Psyvariar Revision-type of nod with the look and feel of it's final boss).

Wooh! I take back everything I said about this game- it's deep and lovely :D
There's a secret on Stage 1 where you hover over a partial ring which then becomes a full ring to get the bonus. What other game do you hover over a partial ring which then completes for the score? It's really frustrating me trying to remember...

That would be PatriotDark if I'm not wrong, from the same dev now that we are at it :P Must be a trademark.

It reminded me of the hidden dogs of Radiant Silvergun and how I would suddenly shoot at one of them and hear the "woof woof" only to think it was some sort of crazy enemy/laser cannon.

Also, yeah, this game, fukken awesome.

Is there anything that dictates what kind of anchor attack you get? Seems random.

Also, what are these partial and full rings you speak of? :? Do you mean the red shards ringed with a blue circle?

you mean when you are "locked on"? The shot type is determined which enemy you are "anchored" on. . . I think. Each enemy has their own type.

The blue rings can be seen in this PV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QstLXujEvAk The pink shards in blue bubbles are Medal Items and they appear to work somewhat like medals in Garegga. For the most part (?), enemies drop them when they are destroyed while you are anchored to an enemy.

That video also shows a hidden penguin, which I've seen on each stage. They appear as pink silhouettes and have to be uncovered (like DDP's bees), but I haven't been able to figure out how yet. I just kind of uncover them accidentally and haven't been able to do it deliberately. I'm not sure what sort of reward they give--100,000 points by the looks of it.

It's also not immediately obvious, but on the Anchor/Bomb select screen, pressing left or right will change your default weapon. I have 15 available so far, but I'm not sure what you have to do to add new weapons to your aresenal; they sort of just accumulated for me.

you reveal the secret do.........i mean penguin by using enemy's weapon (when you anchored,bomb,lock) to them.

this game is amazing

I really wish independent developers would stop copying CAVE scoring systems.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

according to the achievements, that's it. Fixed would be considered "E." Boss rush can be accesses in practice mode.

It also has secret mid bosses I never knew about and a handy battle report. Also, the weapons I listed are all the weapons you can get in the game.

I realized that you can cancel the anchor at any time you want clearing the screen of bullets, and do this repeatedly over a short period of time with no real downside... instantly killed any ability I might have had to appreciate the game :(

Cancelling your anchor like this will save your life, but it will also reduce your score, since killing enemies while anchored drops the high-scoring pickups.

I thought there was a rank mechanic that punished you for doing this. Or was this something that was removed in a later revision? I haven't played the latest versions, but its clear Yagawa was an influence, at least from the style.

Cancelling the anchor will drain your crystal supply in short order; I think 2 or 3 cancels will do it. But as long as you keep doing short zaps, rank won't increase. Since your crystals will be depleted, you won't be able to maintain an anchor (and get pink crystals) without increasing your rank, though.

It does make things easier, since it's sort of a panic bomb. But it only cancels what's on screen and isn't as useful against enemies who constantly fire (like bosses).

Since the thread has been bumped, does anyone know how to unlock other modes besides Anchor and Bomb?
