Seems a bit suspicious that Microsoft patented technology they knew Apple was going to use... Industrial espionage perhaps?
I have an iPod also (40GB), but when it dies I won't be buying another one.

And a shameless plug for the stuff I'm selling on eBay, if you're into that sort of thing.

The iPod was launched in November 2001 but Apple waited until July 2002 to file for a patent; Microsoft snuck in to license some of the technology the previous May.
Gee walking into a store and buying an ipod sure is some nice corporate espionage. I wonder if Sam Fischer was put on the case. Maybe Snake snuck around the store, bought his ipod, and then told Bill Gates some stupid convoluted story about saving the environment or some other kind of idiotic crap?

Microsoft couldn't steal from Apple what was never Apple's idea to begin with. Apple stole the window-based GUI concept and the mouse from Xerox PARC, in very much the same way that Microsoft co-opted it from Apple years later (both involved a tour of the facility coupled with casual espionage). Apple suing Microsoft over the 'theft' of Windows is much like a bank robber calling the cops because a catburglar broke into his house and stole the cash from his latest heist.BulletMagnet wrote:Considering that MS originally stole the "point and click" concept for Windows from Apple, a move like this really doesn't surprise me...ahh, the wonderous world of corporate ethics.

I misread the article - I thought the patent was filed prior to the iPod release. The n00b wrote:judesalmon wrote:Seems a bit suspicious that Microsoft patented technology they knew Apple was going to use... Industrial espionage perhaps?

However, that doesn't excuse you being a total dick.
