Weird XM29 Plus problem (lose video)
Weird XM29 Plus problem (lose video)
So, I had a weird problem a couple of times tonight, and I think (hope) I know what the deal was. Anyway, I was testing some new SNES games out on it through S-Video. My SNES is not S-Video modded. After a few minutes of playing the screen would flick off, but power, the fan, and audio still worked. I couldn't change channels. I turned the monitor off, then back on. A few minutes later, it happened again. I started freaking out, and hoped to god it was the un-modded SNES with S-Video that was fucking it up. I tried using my RGB modded PC-Engine Duo-R afterwards and kept it on for a few minutes and everything seemed okay. Do you think my monitor is dying, or do you think the S-video was shorting it out? Any help would be appreciate. Thanks!

Just to be clear svideo or composite?
Personally I think that if it was immediate screen thing that came back on fine and you didn't observe any geometry collapse or similar, then I'd be more inclined towards a physical connection being dodgy somewhere.
Perhaps even as simple as a busted svideo cable - these can be a very troublesome if they've been creased/kinked/pulled [although the lack of a change input ability is somewhat worrisome]?
You been shifting or tating the monitor recently? [ that seemed to be the issue with mojo's monitor in this thread (easy fix) - http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=29028 ]

Re: Weird XM29 Plus problem (lose video)
I was using just S-Video when it kept turning itself off. The fan stayed on, as well as the power. I'm hoping it was just the S-Video cable since it worked with RGB and no troubles. I did tate it awhile back, but I've since played it quite a bit while horizontal. If it happens again I"ll take a look. Thanks for the link to the other thread; it seems like it could come in handy!
