Vewlix Custom / Kraylix / Donovan Myers / Shumps Arcade

Post by sorhp »

Here is a view of my Arcade Machine I made, the pictures speak for themselves,
I used 3/4 MDF, it hosts a windows 7 pc, xbox360 and has a 2.1 sound system...
I used these sites for reference...

Very nice! I really love the lit up move strip space.

Edit: Not my idea to use that logo. Someone else here perhaps?

Looks super, excellent job.

From the 2nd pic, it's a bit of a far shot, but the lines and joinery seem to be very well done. I almost would like to see the same setup made of cherry or maple veneered plywood, and then stained/polyed.

How many man hours did you put in?

Is the logo painted on, or is it a printe behind plexiglass?

I could probably build the cab, but I have no clue yet as how to wire up monitors / speakers / or a control panel. Again, very nicely done - you should be proud.

This is slick looking!
I love the thin-form design, and the Xevious inspired artwork!
Looks like a perfect set-up next to your other cab.

Great job!

Thanks Emphatic... you're right, it was nimitz, thanks NIMITZ! ... for the shmups logo idea

All of the art was photoshopped, the marquee was printed on a sicker material, no plexi, as for the control panel and the instruction card, there is plexi over that, and glass over the monitor and bezel. I built 2 machines at the same time, this 1 player and a 2 player fight machine, the wood work took 2 solid weeks, at least 4 hours a day to get them both right. I had no hard plans to go by, so I had to plan as I went, and that takes time. then paint took 2 weeks, sanding, spraying, sanding, spraying, several times. There are still discrepancies in the paint because I don't have a proper paint booth, and I was using car paint for a better quality, longer lasting job. Photoshopping the art took a few weeks also, just doing that at home in the evenings, then hardware, and getting everything printed at 2 different printshops... so total time I believe was 8 weeks for both, and I still have a few touch-up things to do (I need to properly mount the marquee on the 2 player machine, ( i didn't plan very well ), the grafx under the buttons on the 2 player needs to be adjusted, and the shmup machine needs one little place touched up with white paint)

Thanks for the thumbs up, guys! I want to thank ArcadeUFO in Austin, Texas, I went there for a great evening to play dodonpachi daifukkatsu, as I have never been able to play a proper Japanese SHMUP PCB (I'm from a place that doesn't have arcades that respect anything cool to play, except Mortal Kombat) and seeing all of the vewlix, egret, net city, and other candy cabs, it inspired me to get on the ball to make these, I had a ton of fun building them, it was pricey buying displays and computers and xboxes, but worth it for the future. people ask me if I am going to sell them, I will if the price is right, but I built them to play, and play I shall. I don't have the time it takes to 1cc everything I play, but I will try... alot
