Could it be an unused sprite from an arcade shmup title? I don't recall seeing this particular fightercraft in any of the arcade shmups that I used to play back in the mid-1990s. Perhaps someone, with a sharper eye for detail, can shed some light into this mystery shmup sprite.

Or maybe the number of ships in stock icon below the score?

Yeah, it's beginning to look like the mini ship icon that Dave K. mentions of in the classic APB PCB.

I'm guessing it's either something to do with Recca or that "Car-Pet Stories" in Batrider I keep hearing about. :?

I'm pretty sure it's not a ship stock icon, because it doesn't look like any of the player ships. My guess is still an option, but I don't know what ship it would be for.

I am sorry but I have might have been misleading you unitentionally. Since the original image was so small 16x16 I resized it to 32x32. I have added the unmodified image to my first post.

The pink jet reminds me of the taito f3 game, ba-something, the one whose name I used to confuse with Batsugun

I must have been thinking of the pink jet on gekirindan's biplane (???). Not a lot of ships have pink jets, that's a major clue.

I thought of that and ran DOJ, Dodonpachi and Donpachi straight after I thought of it but neither the ship, nor the life icons or pods look like that.

If you found it in the game's rom, it just might be prototype stuff. Donpachi has some unused ships in the graphics rom, for example.

Stuff like that is fun to try and hunt down in the game's data files, but really, don't take it too seriously.
