More PAL Cave releases from RSG (?)
Re: More PAL Cave releases from RSG (?)
I'm sure it will sell - but it's a game that has to be played for score to really get anything out of, and having a look at the Deathsmiles PAL leaderboard it's clear not many people are doing this. Maybe it's just the game/impulse buyers or western attitude... or how complicated scoring is in these games. A demonstration vid from Cave would be good.
I'll be getting the Black Label dlc for sure.

Whats the most realistic possibility of the next release.
Id say Deathsmiles 2
Id say Deathsmiles 2
Re: More PAL Cave releases from RSG (?)
Who do you think these releases are aimed at or are indeed selling to? They're selling to people with at least a modicum of knowledge of the genre. They're not selling to ignorant casuals, that's for sure.Sumez wrote:I don't think the DDP brand name has any value at all to anyone who's not a shmup/arcade geek.
Re: More PAL Cave releases from RSG (?)
Most people I know in real life (outside of forums) who still play shmups play them for a an occasional 5 minute blast, not for score.dan76 wrote:I'm sure it will sell - but it's a game that has to be played for score to really get anything out of, and having a look at the Deathsmiles PAL leaderboard it's clear not many people are doing this. Re: More PAL Cave releases from RSG (?)
If they were selling to only shmup geeks, their target audience would be aware that DS is a better game than DFK (I guess this can be argued, but it seems to be the general opinion), which is still not helping DFK's case.bcass wrote:Who do you think these releases are aimed at or are indeed selling to? Of course, I hope DFK will sell at least as well as DS, and I hope the DS release helped open more people's eyes to Cave games.
Re: More PAL Cave releases from RSG (?)
I said a "modicum of knowledge" not "expert in the genre". I think everyone here is only really a microcosm of the total number of people who have an interest in the genre.
Re: More PAL Cave releases from RSG (?)
While some might say DS is better than DFK BL (I neither agree or disagree with that) I definately think Deathsmiles is much more fiddly to play, i.e. the firing in two directions with shot/laser, the rather complicated scoring system and manipulating your characters familiar to do what you want it to do.Sumez wrote:If they were selling to only shmup geeks, their target audience would be aware that DS is a better game than DFK (I guess this can be argued, but it seems to be the general opinion), which is still not helping DFK's case.bcass wrote:Who do you think these releases are aimed at or are indeed selling to? I think DFK BL is a better game if you want to introduce new people to the genre and represents a real high point in shmups in general. Having said that, the £18 price mark for DS is a MAJOR selling point imo.
I personally wish that Cave would just put some of their games on Steam as well, I'd crawl over broken glass for Red Katana, Esp II or Ibara on Steam.

Re: More PAL Cave releases from RSG (?)
Why do you want them on Steam?? Why not just a stand-alone (preferably DRM free!) PC release?
Re: More PAL Cave releases from RSG (?)
Because Steam is awesome, and has some semblance of DRM? And there are sales which the Cave games could be part of perhaps? And I can bug my friends on steam to buy it etc. Jamestown did well when it was part of the Steam summer sale.Sumez wrote:Why do you want them on Steam?? I'm pretty confident that you'll never see Cave on Steam. At least not for the remainder of this gen.

Re: More PAL Cave releases from RSG (?)
It would be cool if Cave released XBLA Guwange on Steam as well as other older shmups with online leaderboards and an extra mode or two. As bcass has just said it will never happen this gen. Cave seem to get special treatment from MS, they wouldnt want to risk damaging their relationship.
However if the rumours about Windows 8 having 360 / windows live support are true. Cave might be coming to PC indirectly.
As for DDP im undecided as to how it will sell. I think allot will depend on what light the media put the game in. If the general concensus is of a great game thats well worth the higher price I should do well. But for some reviewers gameplay is secondary to topics that are popular with the masses and bring in the clicks. (Ie moaning about the price and the DLC)
Thats if it gets reviewed, given how so many of the big gaming websites are US based, many of them wont bother reviewing some obscure European release (in November). I suppose its up to the fans to market the game with word of mouth. I remember when NA DS released a fair number of YT videos were made by some of the most popular YT uploaders like Kwing. Hopefully some will pop up. However im not too sure if Europe has anyone as popular as the likes of Kwing do we? apart from Pete Dor

Yeah some lunatics in the DFK PAL threads.
Re: More PAL Cave releases from RSG (?)
Whose numbers are absolutely insignificant and can be counted on 1 hand.
For every idiot I see posting that they're going to boycot DLC, I'm going to buy an extra copy to give to a friend.

Yeah basically one or two people made a big stink about the DLC and said they won't be buying the game because of it. I don't see how a small handful of people not wanting to buy the game constitutes a boycott, but whatever.spadgy wrote:Actually - where did you here about this? That being said, I figure if they want to market DFK to westerners it would make sense to include at least one of the extra modes for free, even as DLC. I mean the regular version of the game is already available on iOS in the west, are they hoping to sell the game a second time to people who bought the iOS release under the pretense that they can spend more on DLC to get a different version of the game?
Re: More PAL Cave releases from RSG (?)
I have seen people bitch about the DLC on other forums. also I am not claiming this is a huge "boycott" but here and there you get random "I wont be buying this because of DLC" from some asshole.

Arranges A and B are certainly not in the iOS version. And Arrange A is pretty amazing.Zorator wrote:Yeah basically one or two people made a big stink about the DLC and said they won't be buying the game because of it. I see. I did see the posts then (those individuals moaning about not getting it). I was worried some organised boycott was underway. That would be great way for us PAL shmup players ruin our chances of seeing more Cave games over here.
I like bcass' 'counter-boycott' idea!

Re: More PAL Cave releases from RSG (?)
Instead of boycotting because of the DLC or the lack of Ketsuipachi, I think it'd be a better idea to just nag Cave and Rising Star both via email or Facebook/Twitter or something. It still puts pressure but it's more positive pressure.spadgy wrote:Zeron wrote:I have seen people bitch about the DLC on other forums. also I am not claiming this is a huge "boycott" but here and there you get random "I wont be buying this because of DLC" from some asshole.

Then again, requests for Ketsuipachi have been alongside Resurrection the entire time the game's been wanted for PAL and it's confirmed not to happen for release. Maybe Cave won't budge. Maybe it'll happen later and it's coming secretly. Either way positive pushing instead of negative boycotting is teh best way to go about it.
Re: More PAL Cave releases from RSG (?)
I think missing Ketsuipachi is just a matter of RSG not realising "BL" and "BL arrange" were two very different modes, and thus not considering that anything was missing in due time to press Cave into making Ketsuipachi available.
It's pretty easy to mess up if you aren't really into the games.

Re: More PAL Cave releases from RSG (?)
What I dont get with these DLC "boycotters" is that how they cannot get it through their minds that this PAL DFK release is based on the original Japanese DFK 1.5 release hence no Ketsuipachi.
Re: More PAL Cave releases from RSG (?)
Why would that keep Cave from including an extra arrange mode that probably would never reach Europe otherwise?

Releasing a fanservice mode to a game that not even out here is quite strange.

Re: More PAL Cave releases from RSG (?)
I think RSG are wise not to include 3 DLC packages from the get go. Maybe RSG / Cave could be persuaded to release BL arrange in the future. It might be a cool way for them to drum up extra sales months after initial release. Ive no idea how much presentation in the JPN Ketsuipachi but maybe Cave could jazz it up slightly so that it might be more interesting for the media.
Someone mentioned that RSG should give away 1 of the DLC instead of charging for it. This is exactly what RSG tried doing with 1.51 but MS wouldnt let them. While im not calling RSG liars but Cave can get away with preorder DLC. My guess is its a Japan only thing or just MS been fickle

Rising Star Games promised to try to price 1.51 as cheap as possible.
