I've often wished there was a list of all the videos on Youtube/Nico Nico and the like sorted out for easy reference, not for hosting like super-play.co.uk, but more like an ordered list of the Youtube thread here, or like the Strategy index. It'd be a lot more convenient than hunting through the high score threads or the strategy discussions as well.
Would anyone else find such an index to be useful, or want to contribute to it? Thanks
I was actually planning something like this, but it never eventuated.
I sent Tychom a private message concerning his site, and didn't receive a response. I'm not sure if that was a "no", but probably not, rather I get the feeling he's inactive or doesn't care. I thought about hosting it on my site but was reluctant due to not having permission. In any case, something like Tychom's list but exclusively for shmups sounds like a good idea.
Otherwise it means digging through every Japanese shmup video across Youtube and Nico, which I'm not really up for doing.
A Youtube playlist isn't really the idea since it'll rapidly get unwieldy, and most of the difficult to find videos are on Nico Nico or elsewhere. The idea is to have a reference to provide for both easy look-up of "known" videos that may take a while to find and to draw attention to other interesting videos that may not be quite superplay level but are still very much worth watching, as a sort of permanent record of videos.
I do expect it will be very much a work in progress for a very long time, and I'm happy to volunteer to maintain the index if there's some interest in trying to do that... I'll probably start a thread soon too, which should help clarify what I have in mind
I think a couple of wiki pages are all we need for that - you just add a link when you see something intersting, preferably with some descriptions. The problem is how to keep it from been flooded by hundreds of shitty irrelevant videos or, worse yet, spams.
I was working on a thread-based index at namakoHQ, here, while Cave-STG has one here.
As fior a purpose-built system for it, I was thinking of doing something as well, but haven't had the time to work out the ins and outs yet.
Those two threads are awesome yes The only problem is they are ordered chronologically and not by game title, making it a bit tricky to navigate after a while, especially for newcomers, but other than that it's basically what I was trying to get at.
What sort of purpose-built system did you have in mind though, out of curiosity?
I was thinking of coding up a searchable database using PHP etc that would have an index of players, games, scores, replays etc. Simple stuff, could be coded in a few days with the right planning.
