Ok i've been playing this for a bit and, i'm pretty poor at it. I need some competition! I know that there are four or more forum members that have this, so let the scoring begin!

Damn you Ord ;) I wanted to get in some Garegga tonight, but the appearance of this thread has made me hook my supergun back up for another go ;)

Icarus - 2,377,770 - Stage 3 - Bond [ST]

Image

Yeah, I suck :) I died a few seconds before the third stage midboss, making a dash for a Napalm Option (which, in rank system terms, would be a very bad idea ;))

The most important thing I've found is to try and get close to maximum value Medals in stage 1. It makes a huge difference to scoring. So far I can manage up to 3,000pts Medals by the start of stage 2, and I think I've figured out a good strategy for defeating Meidi without dying or resorting to the hadou.

BTW, you might want to make a note of the different ship subtypes that you can select by holding down Shot, Bomb, or both Shot and Bomb when you press Start, or just pressing Start on it's own. They all have hugely differing characteristics, so it might be important to make a note of them in the score posting - [ST], [A], and [A+B].

A little tip: if you use an alternate subtype, you can let go of the buttons after you press Start. Or else you end up using a bomb before you've even started ;)

Eight One posted this on another site -
There's a few secrets in this game.

You can change your bomber when you start the game. After inserting your coin, hold the following:

Bond:

A: Normal (not sure of the change, if any)
B: Homing (This is more like the bomb Garegga's Silver Sword has)
A+B: Huge: (Two bombs that with huge explosions like Gain's magic bomb)

Dyne:

A: Normal
B: Cluster: (This one is more radial-like the 2P bomb in Raiden II)
A+B: Huge: (Same as Bond)

--

Holding the joystick UP when you start puts you in Hard mode. Howing the Joystick DOWN when you start puts you in Extended mode.
So that's the subs in a bit more detail.
Hmmm wonder how many more secrets there are.
I think i'm getting better at the medaling, but I keep picking up the rockets on level 1 by mistake, which is increasing the rank, making the 2nd boss battle tough!

You might want to correct that info a bit, since each subtype affects more than just the bomb characteristics ;):
For Bond, Icarus wrote:
  • Default (ST)
    • Shot: Twin firing stream, upgradeable to double threeway.
    • Bomb: Wide Napalm. Amount of bomb fragments affects width and travelling distance - up to half-bomb gives two streams, more than half-bomb adds one extra stream to each side
    • Option: All Options are fixable upon holding the A button
    • Speed: Faster of the two default ships
  • (A)
    • Shot: Twin firing stream, upgradeable to double threeway. Bullet size seems bigger than default. Shot Reinforced power?
    • Bomb: Concentrated Napalm. Amount of bomb fragments affects travelling distance and width as default. However, according to a Japanese forum, this bomb can be controlled like the Silver Sword's Napalm in Garegga. So far, I haven't ben able to do that though :?
    • Option: All Options are unfixable.
    • Speed: Slightly slower than default.
  • (B)
    • Shot: Gets a penetration bullet with higher Shot levels
    • Bomb: Homing Twin Napalm. Two homing missiles are fired which leave a trail of napalm in their path. Amount of bomb fragments affects homing missile travelling distance.
    • Option: Side Options are fixable, while the back Option is free.
    • Speed: Slightly faster than default.
  • (A+B)
    • Shot: Shot is wider than the default.
    • Bomb: Area blast attack, similar to Gain's Weapon in Garegga. Amount of bomb fragments determines how long the bomb "burns" for.
    • Option: The back Option is fixable, while the side Options are free.
    • Speed: Fastest of all subtypes.
For Dyne, Icarus wrote:
  • Default (ST)
    • Shot: Three way, upgradeable to five way (?)
    • Bomb: Wide Napalm. Speed of napalm is a lot slower than 1P, but burns longer. Amount of bomb fragments affects napalm cluster width and burn length.
    • Option: All Options are fixable upon holding the A button
    • Speed: Slowest of the two default ships
  • (A)
    • Shot: Bullet size seems bigger than default. Shot Reinforced power?
    • Bomb: Fast short ranged cluster bomb, similar to the yellow cluster bomb in Raiden DX, but fired ahead of the ship.
    • Option: All Options are unfixable.
    • Speed: Slowest of all subtypes (ack -_-;;)
  • (B)
    • Shot: Shot width becomes a lot more narrow and concentrated.
    • Bomb: Short ranged cluster bomb, similar to the yellow bomb in Raiden DX, but dropped underneath your ship (like in Raiden DX).
    • Option: Side Options are fixable, while the back Option is free.
    • Speed: Slightly faster than default.
  • (A+B)
    • Shot: Shot is wider than the default. Much, much wider -_-;;
    • Bomb: Area blast attack, similar to Gain's Weapon in Garegga. Amount of bomb fragments determines how long the bomb "burns" for. Dyne's area blast is a double explosion, while Bond's is a single explosion. Apparently, this is the strongest bomb out of al subtypes, even at minimum bomb fragment amount.
    • Option: The back Option is fixable, while the side Options are free.
    • Speed: Faster than default.

It kind of stinks how the 1p and 2p side are different. Bond's(1p) ship moves faster and has a normal shot, while Dyne's(2p) ship moves slower and has a wide shot. The reason I say this is because I hate wide shot, but it's common in Japan for the 2p joysticks to be less worn out than the 1p side.

IIRC somebody said Mushi didn't display quite "right" with their supergun. It would of coure work if you were doing RGB to an XRGB converter to a computer monitor but I would be doing RGB signal converted to NTSC component video so I would like to know if it would work before I get the game.

I cannot get mushi/ibara to display correctly with my supergun. I am not using rgb or anything fancy. Even if I shrink my screen vertically as much as possible, I am still missing 10% of the screen. DOJ/ESPG worked displayed perfectly, so I am not sure what the problem is.

Well, I'm using a SCART cable on my supergun, and there is slight cropping to the top edge of the vertical screen (cutting off a few pixels of the score display) but that's about it. The game itself displays with no problems.

Have you tried to change the vertical/horizontal positioning/size on your screens? Although on my LCD TV Ibara displayed without needing to alter any v-pos/size settings, you might need to fiddle with it to get the best display.

Game-strategy-wise, I've figured out a very nice little route through stage 1 to get near maximum medals by the end of the stage. My best is 8,000pt medals by the start of stage 2. Meidi is still as unpredicatable as ever, though...

Yes, I have changed positioning and have shrunk the screen as much as possible. The top and bottom of the screen are still cut off. This was annoying in mushihimesama as I could not tell how many bombs I had during boss battles.

What video board are you using? I had a Jrok that displayed some games like that.

Hi RFK, what stage did you get to? And what type of ship did you use (ST default, A, B, A+B)?

The volume pot is usually set to a very low level - mine was when I got it, and I thought the same thing. Locate it and turn it up a notch. Either that or connect it to a set of speakers that you can adjust the volume to.
