When you could play Umihara Kawase instead!Neon wrote:Why play shit that's only moderately enjoyable?
Oh, wait...
Try telling that to my dad...he's never cared much for video games in general, but to this day OoT remains the only game he's ever sat down and played all the way through, without any promting to do so from me or anyone else. Perhaps his tastes and yours aren't compatible, but it certainly wasn't a magazine or a console bias that persuaded him to play the thing.Neon wrote:And of course people think Ocarina is teh best game evar oneoneone. It's what the magazines, and their Nintendo fetishes, tell them to think.
I've given up on this battle. Most people are dead-set on the second point of view.BulletMagnet wrote:Might it be reasonable for a person to consider that, if others enjoy a game he doesn't like to some degree, to assume that the game does SOMEthing right, even if it's not something that he personally cares much for? Or is it somehow more reasonable for him to just take the well-traveled path that a good chunk of this forum likes to traverse, and just assume that he alone is somehow enlightened, and everyone else on the planet just plain "doesn't get it," and that's Just The Way It Is, Dammit?
I'd have to disagree with you there. SF2, around the time of the SNES conversion received more coverage than any game, ever. Least over here. There's a difference between that and the fact that Ocarina got far more coverage and hype than any arcade game ever has. Thus it's going to be more people's favourites.
Maybe, just maybe, it did cater to some gamer's specific taste's. Those who like 3D action/adventure games and wanted to play the finest example ever coded for starters. As the saying goes, if you try to please everybody, you please nobody. He and everyone else may have enjoyed the game, but not as much as they would a niche title catering to their specific tastes, methinks.

What Nintendon't needs to do is make fullspeed w/sound NES, Genesis, and PCE emulators for DS, then I'd get one.
Because 2-D does not equate to $$$$ these days (well,in America, atleast).Brian wrote:I guess I have had too much time on my hands at work today as I got to thinking about Nintendo's next console.
Why don't they just make a 2D optimized system?
I have the most feedbacks of anyone in the trading forum...jp wrote:http://www.computercloset.org/NECTurboExpress.htmNeon wrote:Funny maybe, I've got a point though. Why play shit that's only moderately enjoyable?

D'oh! My bad. I forgot, you don't like to actually buy videogames.
