Unused pins? Asking because I want my Supergun compatible

IIRC the mainboard of VP1 has a 4pin connector which connects directly to 2 speakers.slk486 wrote:AFAIK the jamma standard only has mono, so how does a board like VP1 get the stereo signal through?

My google fu tells me the same thing, that most PCB's will have a separate stereo connector.rolins wrote:IIRC the mainboard of VP1 has a 4pin connector which connects directly to 2 speakers.slk486 wrote:AFAIK the jamma standard only has mono, so how does a board like VP1 get the stereo signal through?

Yes to separat connector, or yes to someone chime in?emphatic wrote:Yes.
Both.slk486 wrote:Yes to separat connector, or yes to someone chime in?emphatic wrote:Yes.
What kind of connector is it?

I have some other PCB that supports stereo (P-47 IIRC) but never bothered with it. For CPS2 it's very easy though, just get an RCA cable and set the mobo to output to stereo.
Yep. AFAIK, only CPS2 games can have the JAMMA sound turned OFF.slk486 wrote:So even if I couldn't use the connector I will get full mono sound through the jamma connector?

Ok, thank youemphatic wrote:Yep. AFAIK, only CPS2 games can have the JAMMA sound turned OFF.slk486 wrote:So even if I couldn't use the connector I will get full mono sound through the jamma connector?
Each board might be a little different since it's not part of the JAMMA standard, but my Strider Hiryu 2 board (Capcom ZN-2) has a 4-pin connector that happens to be almost identical to a standard PC 3.5" floppy drive power connector. I hacked one off the PSU I've been using to run my supergun and wired it to a stereo line-level converter that has female RCA jacks.slk486 wrote:Yes to separat connector, or yes to someone chime in?
What kind of connector is it? Picture or reference would be really helpful!
CPS2 always outputs over the JAMMA edge, even if Stereo is enabled. You have to insulate the audio pins to disable it.emphatic wrote:Yep. Well, I think I have see solutions for switching between the mono audio feed from the JAMMA harness and stereo audio from the PCB.slk486 wrote:I have plenty of those around from pc splitters, extenders etc.
Now that I know sounds is in mono even if the board has stereo, I'm not sure I'm even going to bother with it
If the connectors are mostly proprietary, then I don't see an all-in-one solution. Having a few different connectors for stereo won't be a problem though, as long as mono can be disabled on the Supergun. I'll have to check thatshmuppyLove wrote: Well, I think I have see solutions for switching between the mono audio feed from the JAMMA harness and stereo audio from the PCB.
If you're using a supergun you wouldn't even need that, you would just change how the audio is connected from your supergun to your speakers/TV/receiver, since most likely it's a separate connection (unless you're using audio over SCART or something?)
If your're swapping boards in a cab it's a lot more difficult, but I have seen solutions for switching between mono and stereo sources in a cab and it's not terribly complicated.
