For everyone complaining about lag in Daioh, the game has 3 frames of lag, if you do some testing you see that frame advance sometimes give 3 frames sometimes 4 and the game definitely doesnt feel like 4 frames lag.

If you have shmupmame 3 you can compare with Gunbird which has 3 frames lag and i would say Daioh feels even better than Gunbird.

I'm finding this game very unenjoyable.

I'm liking this so far, the lag doesn't really seem to be an issue for me. My only real problem is I just had a really good run, and decided to just credit feed and see what the rest of the stage I was on was like, only to see this game doesn't reset score when you continue  Though the score in the ones column seems to be indicative of continues used. Still...I would've liked to take that score down.

Horrible, horrible game.

Next week I hope the game doesn't have checkpoints or rank.

Everything I can see from Daioh looks positively awesome, IMO, even despite some stupidly devious and fast bullet "patterns". That and Gokujou, I'm sort of envious of this year's STGT participants :)

Anyone else noticed that bosses 4,5,6 and 7 look almost the same, but they just get upgraded each time?

shame about the 6 button layout, this cripples us keyboard players a lot

Ketsui is overrated. It's a good game, but it gets way too much praise.

Try ZXC for shots, your least used at C (vulcan for me).
Lshift, Lctrl for bombs (I see no reason to use the missile bomb).

Or... ZXC for shots, Lshift + {Z,X,C} for bombs.

For people who have trouble with boss 1 on the last page, you can kill it before it gets off a shot by point blanking with missiles. :D

It's better to let the boss live for a while since you might miss on some items if you quick kill it.

You can still get a fair portion by continuing to fire after the stage clear screen comes up and the field fades to black. Just pick a side and go down a bit from the top, and you'll continue to pick up powerups until the next stage loads. Not as much as if you wait, but it works alright if you're willing to sacrifice a bit of score for a bunch of safety.

You have a 360, just map the stuff to that controller.

Or actually, don't play it.

What exactly is it about being a 6-button game that makes it hard to play on a keyboard? Tried it myself just now, and it didn't seem that bad to me....

This is what I would call the hardest stage to recover on but seriously if you know how to quickly take out all the little mid-bosses and bigger enemies closer to the boss even when powered down, then the stage becomes that more manageable. The hardest part to me is probably dying before the red moving turrets and retaining lives/bombs only on slightly lowered rank compared to the 1st death on this part. I find that the missiles fully powered up help a lot here.

ASDZXC, just swap the type 1 and 3 bombs so that type 1 is on C. You're holding S most of the time, you can easily rest a finger on C for panic bombing. Just switch the finger over to X during boss fights. Type 3 bombs are only really useful for really deliberate quick destruction of things, so you don't really need it accessible as panic button.

Considering you don't have to press multiple fire buttons at once, I'm surprised six buttons is too many to handle for some. In most first person shooters you have at least six buttons to take care of and jumping while pressing diagonals isn't uncommon.
Where I find keyboard insufficient for the job are games like Super Metroid, but this? Come on now. Even Metal Gear Solid is pretty playable with the default control scheme of the PC port.

I find keyboard insufficient for anything that isn't a 2D game or fps

plus I've been using this weird hand positioning for 2 years now where I have my right hand over my left hand because I am left handed(and spent 98% of shmup time playing 2 button games)

So, what bombs are recommended? I use the circularly expanding one (for personal protection, but it does some damage as well) along with the short range bomb. Is that laser bomb any good? Also only use the electric and rocket weapons. But I'd like to know if the laser weapon is worth trading away the short range for?
