No more Arcade games, only Smartphone-apps in the future.

I blame the 360-ports, they sold like sh*t

Oh he is still angry about the fact that the 360 was chosen over the PS3 as this gens arcade port console.

This...isn't upsetting me near as much as it should. Not sure how to feel about that.

CAVE makes money on the ports hell they can port a game within 2 hours to the 360 you think their arcade ports cost like 500000 USD to produce or something?
Their games are on XBLA, getting domestic releases in PAL,NTSC-U tons of stuff sold on CAVE SHOP and the newly opened Western one if something this is pretty much the best financially era CAVE has ever experienced.

Smartphones/social games have made up for the biggest chunk of their business for a while now (I remember last year being pretty much exactly the same), so I'm not sure just how worrying it is... Asada said they'd keep making shooters a few weeks ago, and I hope he didn't have phones in mind when he said that :|

Considering how much buzz has surrounded Cave's IOS stuff as opposed to their ports/arcade endeavors I figured it was only a matter of time.

So how soon can we expect Cave to release Ibara Black Label for the iOS? Might just be time to get an iPhone or iPad (if the games support it).

Ha, I like how making people pay real money for in game items is highlighted in red, they seem to like that idea.

Also this diagram is properly shit:

The one with a fuzzy jpg of the earth and
Mobiles → Smartphones
Smartphones → Overseas
is pretty cool too.

Doesn't say specifically, but it's kind of implied.

I'd be surprised if Akai Katana was their last.

If they're going to leave arcade market, then it doesn't matter if they'll continue to develop shooters or not. A shmup designed for smartphones and/or social networks isn't a shmup, it's just another word that begins with "sh".

STGs straight on the 360 is the third option you seem to be overlooking here.

An original STG for the 360 is long overdue. A random bunch of sequels? Fuck that.

Yeah- If they want my money they should move to XBLA like G:Rev has.
Otherwise in 5 years time old iPads will be about £40 and I'll play their new gamez then eh?
It's also interesting that CAVE has a really loyal and enthusiastic following here but their opinions count for nothing against economic arguments.
People talk about CAVE with a really sentimental tone because for a long time they've made such great games which bring us all so much pleasure and it's easy to forget that gaming is an industry for $$$$$s so don't be surprised that in such a niche market they're making bold and brutal decisions now :D

Being an iPad player - the games are really fun to play.

Deathsmiles is really a blast to play.

And the controls work great.

But the controls aren't what we want and they're always diluted versions conforming to the device's limitations. Gamers want more of the same. Gamers are Big Mac eaters.

You know what they need to do? Port their shit to PC, probably Steam and make loli-themed Team Fortress 2 hats.

You know you want a Hibachi gun and bee hat.

Either way, after Akai Katana I guess the arcade development might halt or they'll probably go with a more economic platform (all those arcade machines that are actually PCs with WinXP or something embedded). Translation: continuing from where Death Smiles II left.

One last thing: do you all think Akai Katana is the last proper arcade shooter by CAVE? I was thinking they might still have one last hidden "spell".

I don't see any indication that they would consider this. I'd like to see it though.

I'm not having any trouble scoring.

I follow my same routes and actually have more precise control.

It's definitely not the PCB version, but for $5, it's an amazing deal.

I know from what I've read, they were pretty deep into Deathsmiles 3, no idea if it was scrapped or not yet.

I really hope Akai Katana isn't the last shooter from Cave, what a terrible way to go out.

Nobody wants to go to a yearly festival for a cell phone game company. Nobody wants to pay top dollar for merch from a cell phone game company. At least I hope not. If you just look at the bottom line of dollars directly into a company from activities without really thinking about how the activities affect other areas of the company and drop the ones that aren't your biggest money makers, you can totally fuck it up. If a bank offers free consulting to customers it could make them want to do business with the bank for life but on paper the consulting costs the bank a loss.

If you've got a company that is the best in the world at making arcade shooters stopping to make arcade shooters, it's a pile of shit no matter what angle I look from. Hopefully they will learn their lesson.

Have fun at the cell phone festival. All their success has trickled down from their arcade games.
