Darius Force [SFC]

Post by Despatche »

--------------------
3 lives, autofire on. Regional differences unknown. Each zone is being tracked because I can actually justify it to people for this game (every Darius game should have boards for every final zone, which has always been done).

You can at least milk Mudy Crystal's Raizing Part to death, probably other bosses. If you bother going for the counterstop, please ALL it, do it for me~

BOSS ENDURANCE: <when the Taito logo pops up>, down, X, up, B, L, R, left, A, <sound effect>, start a game. Eight bosses, I guess.
--------------------
Post scores in this format:

Code: Select all

MODE - SHIP - END ZONE
NAME - SCORE - ROUTE - DETAILS
DETAILS is for what model of console, what emulator and version, what release of the game, etc. It'd be good to at least mention if you used Super Nova.

Do you really think it's necessary to have such a complex scoreboard for this game?

Since it has a HS thread, I decided to give this game a playthrough. Some very nice boss battles in here.

Image

My Normal Mode Score:

CIT - 471,400 - ABDGJMO - Type 1 - SFC

Please just make a single table for each difficulty and put the route and ship used after each score. There is very little scoring potential in this game its clear that the top route will give you the highest score. An ALL in the top route will always get 450000 to 500000 (theoretical max. with checkpoint milking) points. Which ship you choose has no effect on score.

Sorry, I should add that my score was an ALL, so

CIT - 471,400 - ABDGJMO (ALL) - Type 1 - SFC

Cheers!

Kollision - 464,300 - ABEHKMO (ALL) - Type 3 - SNES

Edit: Normal difficulty.

No lives lost in this run, so I missed a good deal of the possible checkpoint milking in the last stage.
Initially I didn't like the type 3 ship, but in the end it was the best fit for me.

So I decided to take the lower route, just to be different. Turns out that field of head tanks doesn't do much to make up for the shorter run in spite of netting you a whopping 3200 points per swarm. I also forgot to milk Muddy Crystal's tentacle, just to be different. And yes Despatche, please cut down the scoreboard; it's really unnecessary given how limited this game is for scoring purposes. Edit: played in Normal mode.

... Seriously? you're pulling text code elitism on me? that's bloody pathetic man. Also, why should you be running a score board when you can't even put mine up

New score. (Already?!) decided to take the top route this time, but I didn't clear the game so put me in 2nd place for Zone O. For a mostly blind run I'm satisfied. Again, Type-1 was used on Normal.

Yes, that's what I meant when I said top route was taken. I didn't make it to Zone O though, nor did I even get to see Great Force.
Also, how do you guys manage to play this thing on an actual console? it's a fine game and all, but without the fast forward key I think I would have lost my patience by now.

Well that was unexpected. Got my Zone O clear while trying to kill time during another bout of insomnia. Almost lost at Galst Vic, but being tired managed to help keep my nerves under control.

Why haven't I seen any Zone N clears yet? Megalopros is the best damn boss in the game and you know it.

This is my favorite old school Darius game. It showcases the usual excellence as far as the audiovisual department is concerned but it also has some solid level design on top of the fun boss fights. What a concept!

Cool! Spruced up the boards a bit. I assume this game counterstops at six 9s or something. Such a shame it counterstops at all...

I'm pretty sure the counterstop is 9,999,999 since the game displays 7 digits for the score. It is achievable, but would take like an entire day to do. I spent around 20 minutes milking points in my run, but I could have went on for much, much longer if I wanted. Makes a really lame video though lol.

Wow, I completely forgot about the seventh digit, I guess. Doesn't help that you're normally never even supposed to see 900K...

This got menacingly close! I didn't milk Peace Destroyer, but I died way too many times. It seems like the easiest way to exploit Peace Destroyer would be to purposely die on Thunderbolt Fan so you can get to him (Peace Destroyer, that is) with a powered-up pea shooter. Your higher shot frequency makes it really easy to sit back and destroy the spread bombs as they appear. The laser is too slow to be safe.

Could've played a bit more of Gunnail, but chose to have incredible fun with Darius Force instead. I regret nothing. :D
