Very nice score and replay tyjet. you would have gotten a lot higher if not for the final level. Nevertheless, good job!

You forgot to update mine Spadgy

That castle is extremely tricky to score in since half of the stage is lacking a solid surface to break items. You suicide the stage before and it will take you forever to get back to max items. I don't even know where to start scoring in the castle.

The opening of hades castle is great to start off. When deathscythe attacks with his pumpkins, shoot them down and then power up when he fires his normal attacks. If you had been playing the vanilla, you will see that a lot more counter bullets are fired outside of powerup. But you are right, hard to rebound if you die just before the final stage.

And btw, what did you use to record your replay on youtube?

Spadgy: just noticed i got it wrong again for my vanilla score, should be ALX. That score for non ex is too pwn lol

I think I might revisit that technique when I feel like going back.

I'm using an old panasonic dvd recorder. It's in low quality because it only accepts components as inputs.

You could also try lockshotting Mary too. Btw your video has actually spurred me back into MBL. Was almost giving up as the slowdown is a lot different compared to vanilla, but you made it possible

MBL Xbox 360:
Aliquantic - 1,629,780,673 - 5-1 EX (Ice Cavern) - Follett - 360 PAL

Third credit in months after just getting the game again a few hours ago, nothing impressive at all but it's there for motivating me... the Castle feels doable now aside from stupid mistakes, Ice Cavern boss is still hellish though and killed me twice as usual :!: Not going to put up a DS score since I can't break 100m in that mode!

Is it just me or does anyone else think the PAL version is actually slower than the JP one? Either that, or I'm just better at moving around to pick up skulls :o

Yeah, when i first played it it seemed slower.

For the Ice Palace boss I always try and be ready to go into power up as soon as his energy bar appears - make sure it's at 1000 though, (as you probably know) powering up under that doesn't increase you shot strength. Sometimes I'll have to bomb out of a previous power up in order to time it right - pretty tricky.

Playing with Sakura it's possible to take him down fast if you get close enough - I guess Follette would be the same.

Ozier is best defeated with point blank contact very earily before he appears on screen (at least with sakura). If you're not in powerup mode you may need to sacrifice 2 bombs to dodge those ice cubes he cheaply throws.

Nice. Also, if any of us could get to Bloody Jitterbug, it's you. I definitely believe that you could potentially do it. Just not sure what your scoring would be on a 6x 999 + Ex stages 999 run.

Nah, Deathsmiles isn't really my game so I'd be surprised if I made it much higher than 2b and change on MBL :) But for the time being...

Four misses on Tyrranosatan, good thing I got the power-up cheesing trick to work for Jitterbug this time! Does anyone have a good strategy overview for this boss fight, especially Tyrranosatan? I obviously have no clue and I don't see how it's supposed to be one of the easiest... I've watched replays several times but I think I need words :| (Seriously, I do so much better on 2-5 Hibachi in DOJ than this, it's not funny!)

I have to assume you are playing on the vanilla Deathsmiles. If you are looking to simply survive, you can try this.

1)first wave, simple dodging. When he fires the big rings, look for openings at the top or bottom. Random, so keep an eye out.
2)simple dodging again.
3)the attack wave with the screechy laser noise, position at the left side, middle on the vertical axis. Move towards the bugger as the bullets home in.
4)this part onwards, homing attack on him and bomb out to the second form. When bombing, collide with him to further damage him
5)the second and final forms can be cheesed with homing, especially as follet, as her homing attack is the strongest

Jitterbug is cheesed with homing attack, no bombs required. NOT bombing nets you a large cake. Play more and develop your own style. The most important thing is to know your character so intimately, you can visualize the movement, attack range and option control.

Thanks a lot :) I completely forgot to use lockshot and didn't know you should ram when bombing for maximum damage, this helps a lot! And yes, I'm mainly worried about regular Deathsmiles for now, since MBL with one EX stage is... tough on the Castle :s So I'll cross that bridge when I can reliably get to Jitterbug in that mode

I'm doing better now and the only really troublesome attack is the one with the cubes... what are you supposed to do here other than dodge and pray? I assume you can manipulate the cubes somehow?

Sneak update, I only got 45m on the Volcano and missed *three* times on the Forest, so 140-150m is the next target, won't be happy till I get it :)

The cubes will only fire back if you shoot them. Start from the top. Tap once to knock the cubes back, nudge your way in. Go to the bottom, repeat. repeat cycle. You should be able to do this 5 times. On the 5th time, make sure his tail is at the top. on the 6 cycle the tail will also start firing, but if you move to the bottom of the screen, his tail will somehow flick above the top screen, hence no bullets coming out. But as I said, if you only aim to win, just bomb it out.

One note about follet's homing: bobo's rate of fire increases as he gets closer to the target, so move Follet till you get bobo at point blank range if possible.

You should also note that by going the extra stage, jitterbug gains a second form, and if you
attempt Death lvl2 on the final stage (all lvl3 + extra), tyrannosatan becomes harder too

Also, I do recommend to stick to either vanilla or MBL. Using mbl techniques in vanilla will definitely kill you (suicide bullets absorb range is only as big as your option in vanilla), vice versa will reduce scoring (wiser to break crowns into skulls in mbl)

Thanks again for your enlightened advice :) And yes, I know better than not to bomb against Tyrannosatan, but you run out of them at some point, so I'd like to stand a fighting chance when that happens... I have DS and MBL pretty well segregated in my mind so I should be okay, and I need a change a pace so I won't go crazy :s

Last score until a big improvement (happy to finally get through the Castle), which I have no excuse not to get now that I found a decent, sane replay on NicoNico here (there wasn't much on the leaderboards besides Sakura, and she plays a fair bit differently at times). 3.3b on the Ice Cavern, and I thought my 1.2b at max counter was okay :(

sakura can get irritating to use, especially when you have to lockshot a fast moving target. Follet pretty much sweeps the screen with any attack. Btw i forgot to mention that playing on the 2p side is advantageous (vanilla only), as your option does NOT disappear during a bomb, allowing maximum damage. This has been fixed for mbl, 1.1 and the sequel too

I'm actually trying to get this achievment. I did a practice 999ALL run where I restarted everytime I died, I ended up with around 7.1 bil in the end. So I guess it's the same. Not worth it since it's hell to go through the 999 stages.

Don't be too discouraged. Remember, each character plays and scores differently. Windia's boomerangs that her option spits out produces a lot of items, more items than any other character in my opinion. Which means higher scores. this how the player was able to get away with getting a 10 bil score on a death mode level 1 run. Besides, it's played on the PCB, the 360 version is missing slowdowns in essential areas. I would say 1 bil is ok, 2 bil is good, 3+ bil is very good in the 360ver ice palace.

You have the PAL verison? Mind me asking what the top 5 current leaderboard scores are in the MBL360 (via PM)?

I just watched that video, and must really comment that windia gotten a much needed buff in the MBL. same goes to Casper as well.

I tried playing a run through on both arcade and 360 mode. The results were the complete opposite of what you said: arcade mode was running way faster than the 360 mode!

Btw im still not sure what triggers 999 mode for the Crystal Temple map. Sometimes i get 999, which is what i want, sometimes I get normal. Any ideas on this?

Play 4 out of 6 stages at lvl999 and you will trigger lvl999 for Ice, Gorge, Castle, Ballroom.

MBL 1.1 - 41,852,420,476 5-1 (Ice Palace) Sakura

Worth mentioning, this is my first time actually clearly the ice palace in a run. Usually the boss puts a nail in my coffin. 1/2 missed (touched a jelly) the whole stage and died on the boss but still had enough lives to make it through.
