Arcade sticks for jamma & ps

Post by slk486 »

Now that I've got a Supergun on the way and am getting better at shmups, I'm also getting annoyed at the button layout on my x-arcade tankstick.

Can anyone recommend a place to get a couple of arcade sticks with "proper" button layout and with Sanwa or Seimitsu parts?

I'm thinking they should have Neo geo connectors, since that is what most Superguns take, and have been searching for a Neo geo->ps converter for my other consoles, but have had no luck so far. Any recommendations for that?

I'd like to use the sticks for all my shmupping.

Hope you guys can help :)

Edit: Have found what looks to be a very competent reprogrammable ps2->Neo Geo converter, so a PS2 stick would alleviate most of my needs.
Any good PS2 arcade sticks with Sanwa or Seimitsu parts?

There is the Real Arcade Pro 2 lineup of arcade sticks that Hori made for use on the PSX and PS2. (Is useable with a PS2 to PS3 controller adapter -- i.e. Pelican produced PS2 to PS3 controller variant that has no lag whatsoever).

The budget Hori PS Fighting Stick is another solid arcade stick that was primarily released for the PSX console but works like a charm on the PS2 as well. I've had this particular Fighting Stick modded for use on a Supergun with Neo-Geo AES/MVS pinout (so it'll work just fine even on a Neo-Geo MVS motherboard like the MV-1 variant mobo).

Also have a modded Agetech Dreamcast Arcade Stick with a transcoder box that allows for use on a supergun or the DC console itself. Has the usual Seimitsu parts for both the joystick and push buttons. Very solid arcade stick with the hefty joystick base that perfect for modding with either Sanwa or Seimitsu parts (or mix 'n' match for a unique experience) to gain the upper hand that's need when playing a serious shmup gaming session.

Cheers. I'll have a look at the hori sticks. It looks like the newer hori's come with Sanwa parts, but did the older ones?
I'm considering getting a custom built, hopefully with outs for both PS and Neo Geo.

Looks like a lot of the shmuppers here use the hori's, so I guess they'd be a safe bet?
