This, and to add, they would need to hire someone like Treasure or CAVE for that matter to do so.
Considering what Treasure did to Gradius V, having them do Gradius VI could very well be the best thing since, well.. Gradius V.

Ok - tonight me, JDE and hzt heard from a very reliable source (the main guy in Europe for distributing lots of arcade cabs including Taito and Konami ones that....

'Konami told me they are working on a new Nemesis game for arcade. It will be in 3D'.

That's pretty much word-for-word (JDE/hzt; that's a fair transcription of what he said, wouldn't you say?).

That's all I know. whether he means 3D on a 2D plane, or it's actually from a first/third-person perspective I just don't know.

Maybe there is still hope!

:D He did definitely say it was being made for arcade.

All I can say about hzt is he's lucky I can't read small font size. If I could, I'd 'ave me blade aht.

I find it odd that this guy would know it before anyone else. If anyone heard about a Gradius VI in the works, it would be all over the news! :)

Could be a 3D screen, some of Konami's newer arcade games like Metal Gear and Road Fighters are in 3D. Not sure what a 3D display would do for a shooting game, but who knows.

It'd make sense if the game is in the style of Solar Assault and Zoradius.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

A fair enough point, but I'd say he's fairly involved in the arcade industry; enough to here about stuff before it goes official. He's one of the most prolofic importers/distributors of cab across Europe, and has been for decades (he imported the first Computer Space cab into the UK!).

He's been involved in the development of arcade games and cabs before. He is Mr Electrocoin. I'd say he's certainly entrenched in the industry enough to hear stuff before it goes public.

I work in the games industry too, and am far less involved/established than this guy, and I hear quite a bit under embargo/off the record, so I'm sure he does too, and far more so than a little fella like I.

It's not nitpicking, it's incredible how many people choose to simply ignore the first two excellent MG games, to whom MGS owes a lot. Despite the fact that every game in the series, -especially MGS1- makes constant references to the things that happened in the first two games.
The MG series is known for reusing a lot of concepts, and at least half of the stuff MGS was pretty much a "remake" of Metal Gear 2. :)

In MGS, when Snake gets all surprised with a key that changes according to temperature, I was like "WTF, you saw something like this in Metal Gear 2! Why are you so surprised?"

MGS1 indeed makes lots of references to the MSX games... and not only this, but most of the key moments from MGS1 are basically 3D versions of something that had already happened in either Metal Gear or Metal Gear 2.

When Metal Gear Solid was released, Hideo Kojima said that was the game he wanted to do back in the 80s but ther was no technology available to do such a thing. I always felt he really just got Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2, changed a few bits from the story and made them in 3D with MGS.

I felt the same way about MGS, that it was basically a remake of MG1 and 2. But Metal Gear 2 also reuses a lot from the first game, and MGS2, again, reuses a bunch of stuff from the first three games, so I suppose it's a staple of the series. MGS3 was more original, however. Never played MGS4 or Ghost Babel.

I would love to see a proper Metal Gear 2 remake, made in the same style as the first MGS. It's really one of the most ahead-of-its-time 8 bit games ever.

Don't all those currently used "3D" technologies work with at the most half as much frames per second as the screen refresh rate? Which in most cases means 30 fps at best. I don't want my shmups to go there for the sake of graphical gimmicks.

I had assumed Otomodius was the direction they had in mind for the series, in which case RIP Gradius.

There's a reason 3D TVs have a 120hz refresh rate.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Yeah, all it means is there'll be twice as much load on the GPU, not a big deal.
